Even if it's not esri authentication? It's just simple web authentication, unrelated to esri's AGS/AGOL stuff. I've used the esri resource proxy before, but only on esri resources...

I'm trying to call esri/request on a page that requires username/password, but when I do, I get the following error: esri.config.defaults.io.proxyUrl is not set. If making a request to a CORS enabled server, please push the domain into esri.config.defaults.io.corsEnabledServers Error: "Unable to load https://<myserver> status: 0" But if I do add the domain into corsEnabledServers, I get this error: XMLHttpRequest cannot load https://<myserver>. No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin 'http://localhost' is therefore not allowed access. The response had HTTP status code 401. Error: Unable to load https://<myserver>' status: 0 Any ideas?

The Problem Anyone who's had to do any sort of scripting with arcpy involving complex repetitive tasks knows how long it can take for it to complete. Even something as simple as exporting a few thousand map documents to images can potentially take hours to run. Part of the reason for this is due to the fact that python, by default, runs in a single thread. A programmer familiar with other languages, such as Java or C++ might have the bright idea to address this inefficiency by using multithreading to share the work among all the CPUs. Unfortunately, multithreading in python does not work in quite the same fashion. CPython, upon which arcpy is built, employs what is known as the Global Interpreter Lock (GIL) to prevent one thread from modifying an object while another thread is working with that object, keeping garbage collection working smoothly. However, the downside to this is that python multithreading scripts cannot take full advantage of all available CPUs, preventing any real gains in speed. The Solution Enter the multiprocessing module. This module employs processes instead of threads, thereby bypassing the GIL. Due to this, programmers are able to fully leverage multiple processors on any given machine, and even though processes have greater overhead than threads, significant gains in speed can be achieved. This presentation will show best practices for using the multiprocessing module with arcpy, and will show examples of how we are currently using multithreading to provide solutions to clients. Thank you Justin - this was a successful workaround! I had already tried changing my PYTHONPATH variable, but I hadn't thought of completely clearing it out. Like you, I'll need to revert my path back after I'm done to do other Python dev, but this will work in the meantime. Hopefully Esri will fix this issue so a workaround isn't needed in future versions.

Thanks - glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. I'll report back whenever the escalated support gets back to me. If they aren't able to solve the problem, I may just have our IT department re-image my machine.

Update: Still having the problem even after talking to customer service. For some reason if I make a new administrator user profile on my machine, it can run ArcGIS Pro, but not from my account, even if I uninstall/reinstall or repair. The customer service tech seemed to think it was something to do with corrupt template files, but I'm not so sure. They're now escalating the issue.

I was using the beta a few months ago just fine but now on 1.0, it crashes whenever I open any project (even "Blank"). I get the "ArcGIS Pro has encountered a serious application error and is unable to continue" message. I'm on Win 7 x64 and have ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.2 installed. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling Pro but still get the same error. Any ideas??

We're just now getting the full functionality of Python in ArcMap via Python Add-Ins, but now everything is moving to ArcGIS Pro and I noticed that there are not any plans to include Python Add-Ins for Pro as well. I do like the new mapping module for Pro, but please also give us the ability to create Add-Ins with Python as well.

Aha, this might explain some things. Yes, we have it configured to allow SSL only right now. I see how to do what you're saying in Firefox, but when I click on the shield in Chrome, I'm not presented with the same option to allow unsecure content. Also, in IE I don't get the option at all. Would it be completely irresponsible to disable SSL only?

Hi James - thanks for the tip, but still no go. When I try to add to my content it says: "Service '' does not exist or is inaccessible." This is the service I'm trying to add: http://wwwgisp.rrc.state.tx.us/arcgis/rest/services/rrc_public/RRC_GIS_Viewer/MapServer/1 It adds just fine to an arcgis.com map when I'm not logged in to my organizational account

OK, so I publish a feature service with the symbology set up as you defined to AGOL, make sure it's shared and add it to a map. How would a user be able to click & drag to select the features they want and then change their "Selected" field?

Looking for an easy way for users to be able to select features interactively by rectangle (e.g. the Select tool in Desktop) and then have some way to modify the styling (say, change the color) of the selected features. The changes would need to be saved too, so can't just do browser-side styling only. Here's an example of the scenario I'm thinking of: Adam and Bob are discussing some parcels. To clarify the discussion, Adam makes a map on AGOL containing a layer of parcel features. He makes the parcels he's referring to show up as blue and sends Bob a link. Bob sees the blue parcels but has a few changes to make, so selects a few additional parcels and changes their color to red. Adam is able to see Bob's changes. What's the easiest way to do this without having to use Desktop? Assume a parcels (or something like it) feature service (or KML, geoJSON, etc) has already been created.
