I guess it all also depends on what type of attributes you need. In CityEngine, you can create attributes manually, create/set them with Python or set them with images via Map Layers. E.g. use a bitmap's brightness to drive values between 50 and 200 or whatever. Let me know what precise attributes you need, then I may think of something more intuitive. Cheers ! Matt

When trying to bring attributed footprints from Maya to CityEngine, I'd try the following : Write a MEL (or PY) script, which: - grabs all vertices of the footprint - grabs the xyz coordinated - the attributes you want - and spits out the Python code you can directly run in CE to : - produce new footprints - and assign the attributes. I've done things like this before, so it's possible .. 😉 Are you fluent in MEL coding ? How about Python in CityEngine ?

Hi Kathrin, Nope, this is not possible .. Only obj and dae ( Collada ). You'll need to convert between the formats. If you have no tool to do so, I'd recommend Okino's 'Polytrans': http://www.okino.com/conv/conv.htm Kind regards ! Matt

hi ! sadly, negative setbacks are not yet possible, but indeed they would be nice. you could work with copies of the start shape. Lot -->
alignScopeToAxes(y)
A.
t(0,height,0)
B. 'A' is the code you have so far, then in 'B', do the thing you need. I hope this helps. Otherwise, please post a little image where I can see the input geometry and the goal geometry. cheers ! matt

hi ! yes, .shp, file .gdb or .osm allow you to import such attributed. .obj / .dae / .fbx cannot be used for this. you could use Python scripting to assign specific attributes to specific shapes though.

hey ! I'd recommend a gamer card (a modern NVIDIA card, GTX 580 or newer ) simply because of the costs, thout you may run into issues when wanting to run 3 monitors. [ In general, we recommend NVIDIA ] Though what you could do too ( and what I'm doing here ) to run 3 monitors is just to add a second graphics card in your machine. No problems here what so ever. Btw. my opinion: If you're building a beastly machine anyway with 32 gigs of RAM, SSD and so on for working with CityEngine, I'd not try to save money with a too cheap graphics card. Don't take the PRO line where you pay $2000+, so I'd recommend something 'state of the art' such as a e.g. GTX 670. Why ? Because CityEngine models can easily go up to a million polygons ( or 10 🙂 ) if you want. Need more inputs ? Matt

hmm. do you see any regularity in this behavior ? what does the export log say ? can you test this with one of the downloadable Example cities ? did you find a reproduction procedure for this ? please let me know !

Hi ! Thanks for the additional inputs. Yes, styles work only at the bottom of the code, so there's only one 'style section' allowed per rule file. Thus, you'd have to split all your styles among multiple files which you have to import. That's a limitation, but it also keeps the stuff somewhat 'simple'. A lot of thought went into all this, but of course, it may change again in future. Sadly, not everything is possible ..

hey ! no, that seems to be an alignment problem. try to select only valid shapes for the alignment process. If there's hidden shapes at zero height and you have no selection, this may cause some issue. But I don't know your scene, so there could be some issues. maybe the manual gives you a few more inputs on this .. 🙂 cheers ! matt

Hi ! Answer from our lead dev : "The ??.attribute_layer? project is garbled. One could try to delete the folder in the workspace, but I think creating a new workspace may be more safe. Sure is that the attribute layer code is also stored in the scene ( cej ), so you'll lose nothing." Hope this helps !

Hi ! Yes, best you use the Facade Wizard to create the rules for this. If you just want to use your specific pictures and do a simple mapping of facades, you'd need to create the 'mapping intelligence' in CGA. I am currently working on an easy to use rule set which does just that, but it's not yet ready for public release. may take some more time. For now, try the Facade Wizard, ok ? 🙂 Let me know if you have any more questions ! Matt

I am not perfectly sure if I understand you correctly. Are you importing multiple CGA files with Facade Wizard rules, or are you also using the CGA functionality called 'styles'? [I am wondering how you would combine Facade Wizard rules with such styles] Can you make a little scheme of how things are connected so I can imagine the overall rule structure better ? Let me know .. 🙂
