Hi ! I got some answers on this. It could be that you hit an internal memory limit in ArcScene. Can you check only very few ( e.g. 5 ) trees and check if ArcScene displays them validly ? If they're not displayed nicely, can you open them in ArcGlobe ? If also ArcGlobe does not show the trees nicely, it may be an exporter bug. Either way, let me know. Matt

Hi, Since KML files are interpreted differently by different companies, that's a contstant headache. Can you send me / point me to some explample files ? But please first read this thread, if you did not already : http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/68876-Importing-obj-dae-from-Sketchup Matt

Hi, No, of course it also makes CityEngine 'slower', but CityEngine can handle much bigger datasets than you would want to put online. Usually, a complete WebScene including textures should be around 10 - 30 MBytes. The comp(e) workaround just creates a lot more geometry that can be colored to 'highlight' the edges e.g black. Some people use this in WebScenes because the WebViewer currently does not have Wireframe rendering (line rendering). It's just a 'hack' to mimic Wireframe rendering in WebScenes. Ok ?

Hi 1] CityEngine is a procedural modeling application. It can not create 3d models based on oblique imagery ( using the pictometry methodology ) 2] It's best to use orthogonal fotos, e.g. fotos straight from a facade. The textures can be cropped within CityEngine. CityEngine can not use georeferenced oblique imagery to automatically texture buildings, based on that projection. 3] Yes, the images must be stored on the machine, in the Workspace that CityEngine uses. Basically, the textures need to be in the project. There's no way to use images that are online. If you need those things, it's probably better to search a vendor of such data ( e.g. CyberCity3D.com ) or a similar software. CityEngine was NOT designed for these tasks. Ok ? Matt

Hi ! Street graphs create blocks, blocks create street and lot shapes, with respective attribution. CGA ALWAYS starts with a shape and it's attributes > CGA can not alter street graphs or blocks. Thus, what you need is to set up the system so that the streets inherit attributes down to the shapes, for use in CGA. ( I know, this may sound a bit abstract at first, before playing around with it. ) An other thing you can in CGA is to check the 'width' of a street shape based on the actual dimension with checking geometry.du / .dv, a specific CGA function that gives back the length and width of the geometry of a shape. Otherwise, Python can be used to get and set attributes. E.g. if a street segment is wider than 20 meters, set the street shapes' attribute 'street type' to 'hugeFrigginBoulevard', ... There's many options to reach what you need. Matt

Hi ! shapeL(), shapeO(), shapeU() need a 'yUp' scope to work properly. Learn more about scope here: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/44417-CGA-Understanding-the-concept-of-the-scope Thus, if you want to orient the L or U, you need to orient the scope appropriately first. e.g. when you have a vertical facade shape, use :
attr rotation = 90
Facade -->
alignScopeToGeometry(yUp, any, world.lowest)
rotateScope(0,rotation, 0)
shapeL ... Let me know if this makes sense .. Matt

wireframe itself has nothing to do with the geometry, that's just how the polygons are displayed, thus is independent of CGA. creating polygons for each edge (to colorize them) is not a RAM issue, it's a polycount-issue, since you increase the amout of geometry massively. E.g. this kills the performance in a WebScene .. But this would be the only way to drive this in CGA .. It depends on the use case of course .. M.

Hi ! When going from a georeferenced CityEngine scene into Unity, I'd drop the georeferencing info completely. This can be done easily with the exporter's offset that moves the data near the cartesian origin. This works with fbx, dae, obj. This is a much easier workflow. Check the docs on exporting georeferenced data. matt For script based exports, check tutorial 12 here ( plus 10 for the python basics ) : http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/cityengine/10.2/index.html ok ? m.
