I've got a surveyor locating water valves, and fire hydrants, PRV's, etc......All of these attributes are in the same file. I have converted his file to a GIS Shapefile. His descripters are something like "WV 2 INCH", WV 6 INCH", PRV 4 INCH, PRV 8 INCH. I would like for my symbology to to show all WV's the same, all PRV's the same. So is there a way when setting up the symbology to use 1 symbol for all WV descriptors? I was hoping that I could use a wildcard for the descriptor, like *WV*, so all attributes with WV in it would display the same. This is hard to describe in text, I think I am making it worse by typing . Anyway, I have attached a graphic to show the issue. I'd appreciate anyone taking a look. Notice in the graphic....I would like all the similar items to appear the same. All PRV's, All PS's, All WV's.

I use arcgis a bit, but typically just for some data collection/conversion to cad. I have been given a task. This task in on a water system map with fire hydrants on it. My engineer is wanting me to find all areas not within 400 feet of an existing hydrant. This would show me areas not covered by fire protection. I am just needing the steps on how to create this query. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am working on a water system survey. There are only 3 elements we are surveying. Water meters, Water valve, and hydrants. Is there a way to keep each of these in a single shape file, but display 3 different symbols? I know I can if I put them in 3 different shape files, but would like to see if this can be done in one file. Maybe this is any easy question, but I am just not that familiar with the software.

I created an online map, then created a share link so my field crew could use it on their phones. The background layer comes up, but the shape files I uploaded do not. At the bottom of the phone screen we see the feature layer must be created with either a url or a source error. Any idea what might be happening here? Thanks

Greetings... I am an occassional arcmap user. Mainly working with shape files. I have received a mdb file from a client. I do not know how to get this file into arcmap. I was hoping it was just a drag and drop from the catalog, but that didn't work. I'd appreciate any guidance on this. Thanks. MKH

If anyone could take a look at this data i would be very grateful. There is a pmf file in the zip. There is also what looks like a geo database, but i am not familiar enough to tell. If you can read this data I would be very interested in how you did it. Thanks

thanks dan for the reply. First off, he sent me the pmf file. It shows layers but no data in them. Then he sent me the other data (from the screen clip). I set a folder path in arcmap to that data, but when I open that folder (in catalog) it shows nothing, like it is not the corrcect type of data to be read in catalog.

just received a pmf file. Arcreader would call it up, but the layers are empty with an exclamation point beside each layer name. I also recived some files with it that look like a geodata base, but arcmap wont read these files. So, I am not sure what I have! Does the PMF file require data files to go along with it? I have attached a screen clip of what these data files look like.
