Hi Gregory, Yikes! I didn't have the folder set to public - my bad - However, can you help me out with my other question - see below: On another note: Can I embed an app template e.g. basic viewer or map tour into my web page the way I can a regular AGOL map - by copying and pasting the html code? If so, where can I access the html for the app? Thanks on both points. Jim

All, Map Tour builder hangs when I "look Up" either my email address or Picassa ID. Therefore I can't upload images. Anyone have a similar experience and a solution? Thanks, Jim

Are both of you guys talking about feature services coming off of Server to AGOL? I am looking to restrict editing on layers of an AGOL site shared in a group - but all the layers are zipped shps uploaded to ESRI. Is there a way to turn off the editing capability to those layers? Thanks, Jim

Thanks for clarifying Mike. Yes, a static PowerPoint would be fine in some cases. There is no exporting AGOL Presentation Slides to PPT correct? Also, is there anyway to simply export the slides as a raster image to just drop on a PPT slide? Thanks, Jim

Simple Questions, I want to send a presentation link from a not shared map to someone without an AGOL account. 1) If I copy the presentation link into an email and leave the setting "not shared" can the recipient just receive a Read only slide show? 2) Even if it is a public map and you send a presentation link. When the person opens up the presentation they can switch to Map mode and start editing the layer files? 3) Again, what is the cleanest way too just send a read-only presentation without opening up your data to the world? Thanks, Jim

Mr. Borchert, Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, the door is closed. Policy change. No new secure maps can be added to an existing group and no new group members either. New groups are public. New maps are either Not shared or Shared with everyone. How long ago was it you were able to change your share setting from "not shared" to your secure group? Jim

Hello - I have a Group in a public ArcGIS online account. One of my maps has allways been shared with only the group. I switched it momentarily to everyone to see about sending a presentation. Now I can't set the sharing setting back to Group Only. I get this message: "Items owned by a Public Account must be shared to everyone before sharing to a group". I don't want it shared to everyone. Has something changed here? thanks for a prompt response - it's important Jim

Jay, Thanks again. Seem to be going station to station here though. My Objective is again, to select two building types from a single point file (that has had its locations calculated using my built network dataset) and add each selection to a Closest Facility network analysis layer: one as the facilities; one as the incedents. Very basic. The first Select and Add sequence goes fine using the Select Layer by Attribute(SLBA) and the Add Locations tools respectively. Making the second selection and add is problematic. I clear the selection of the Buildings file and restart the SLBA tool, but Bldg. point file no longer appears in the tool's "Layer name or table View" drop down. If I try to path to it the tool's filter doesn't see File Geodatabases. I simply want to repeat the sequence and select and add anothet subsert of building types to the Incidents class. I have forced it by creating a separate featureclass of the subset I'm looking to add and 1) adding it as a source to the Network Dataset; 2) Adding it to the Incidents sub-layer. But even then when I hit the "Solve" button on the Network Analyst toolbar I get no routes - just the error: "No Facilities at/in Location(all) in Incidents" Does that mean that the Incidents never added properly. So to recap I need to: Select and Add Incidents Confirm that simply hitting the "Solve" buttom in the NA toolbar is what you were refering to when you said"Closest Facility Solver" The help link you sent was making reference to SDK and Visual Studio. That is not what is required to at least get routes is it? If I need to some how manually tally the routes to rank them then that's the best I can do. Thanks for all your help

Jay, Thanks very much for the response. Calculate Locations tool created a good working feature class with all the location fields necessary to correlate to my street network file. They both reside in a FGDB Dataset along with a successfully built Network Dataset derived from my street file. Unfortunately, when I attempt to add only the Shelter features from my Buildings feature class to my Network Analysis Layer's Facilities sub-layer - by using the Search Query option in the Add Location tool - Add Locations adds all the features in the feature class. The SQL expression the Query Builder creates is being ignored for some reason. The buildings feature class certainly has a type field with "Shelter" records to select. Everything appears fine and I simply want to add X # of Shelter features as Facilities and X # of say Foster Care offices as Incidents. The Buildings feature class is a Source for the Network Dataset and appears in the Add Location tool's dialogue at the bottom - as a choice for the search query option. The expression is simply Type = 'Shelter' but it has no effect. What am I missing here? Thanks, Jim

Dear All, I have a simple objective of looking to rank a facility location by its proximity to six separate services offered at separate locations. So, for example, a facility that has 5 or 6 of these services within a quarter mile walking distance would be classed "best" etc. I have a decent street file that successfully built into a Network Dataset. My facilities file is nothing more than a buildings point file with no fields that relate to the line file. How do I create the relationship bertween the points and the street file? I'm looking to create fields in the building/point file such as "PosAlong; Side of Edge; SnapX; SnapY; Distance. I found a toolbox online called Urban Network Analyst (UNA) - http://cityform.mit.edu/projects/urban-network-analysis.html. This appears to do what's required but I need to get my input buildings file in proper shape. First: Is UNA even necessary? Is there an existing tool in the ArcMap toolbox that can accomplish the same thing? i.e. calculate "Reach" Second: How can a point file be processed to "correspond" to a street network as I described above. Thanks in Advance, Jim Labate

Appreciate you trying but that's a file geodatabase I attached. It will not upload to ArcGIS Online. I meant if you happen to have a server running ArcGIsSfor Server can you attempt pushing this little test file out over the web as a feature or map service so I can then attempt to add it to ArcGIS Online map. Mike, Thanks for steering us in the right direction. Although judging by discussions on the forum of trying to make internal servers available there are still major hurdles to overcome (http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/52734-arcgis-explorer-online-cannot-access-arcgis-server-located-on-internal-network ) What I don't understand is if the service is coming off an internal server and is not visible why does it "partially" work i.e. show up in my group page as a thumbnail with a link to open that in fact does open and even zooms to the basemap location of the file, albeit without rendering features? More important though is getting this service functioning and added to my web map. Instead of going the route of keeping the service internal and setting up a "clientaccesspolicy.xml" - something that we know nothing about - what's your advice for simply making this one service public? Is it an all or nothing scenario where either all you services are public or all internal? Thanks, Jim

Your map and feature services can access SDE data from ArcGIS Server. Essentially, ArcGIS Server sits between your web server and your database server. Can you provide the REST endpoint of your map service? I'm guessing that it's not publicly accessible and thus, ArcGIS Online can't see it. A simple test would be to take the URL and see if you can see it outside your organization, for example from home when not connected to your organization. Thanks, Mike Mike thanks for feedback. I can find the service when I search for it to add it to Online Map (partially public accessible?) My situation is I am viewing it from home and a colleague is loading File GDB on a county govt. server. (Could there be firewall issues?) REST end point being this? /rest/services/Jim/GravityMain_2/MapServer full path as it appears in from the service in the Online Group I set up: http://sdeserver/sdeserver/rest/services/Jim/GravityMain_2/MapServer No - can't view full path from browser/ ArcGIS Explorer Thanks, Jim

Hi all, Both a map and feature service being served from SDE geodatabase fail to load in ArcGIS online map. The services appear when I search to add content but when I attempt to add them as a layer I get an error saying "layer cannot be added to the map." However, the map does zoom to the location of the features - it just doesn't render them. SDE services do work with ArcGIS Online right? You don't have to be serving from ArcGIS for Server exclusively do you? Does it matter that the original source of the two feature classes I'm testing were just shp files? I imported them into a personal and file GDB. Could some kind of firewall/security be interfering? These map and feature services reside on a county emergency services server (that I don't have access to. Again, all appears to be well. I see the services in my Group Page. the services appear when searched for. The map zooms to the feature's proper location when the service is added. But it doesn't render either the points or the lines. And then it errors out. Anyone have an SDE / ArcGIS for Server platform they can toss this on from? Thanks in advance, Jim

Mike, Thanks for response. Yes, I can add a zipped shp file. But failing being able to add a layer package with my symbology, is there another way to use symbols in arcgis online that go beyond the default symbol palette provided? Is there anything akin to a .lyr file in Online? Thanks, Jim You can't add a layer package to a web map. This will not change. What you can do is add a shapefile or CSV directly to a web map. From the arcgis.com map viewer, click the Add menu button and add a layer from a file. You can upload a shapefile with roughly 1000 features in it (it depends on the geometry of the features). You'll be able to symbolize the shapefile from the web map. If you want to upload larger datasets, then your option is to purchase a subscription to ArcGIS Online. With a subscription, you can have ArcGIS Online host your data, creating web services out of them. http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgisonline/features/organizations.html hope this helps, Mike
