i see the same error you described when i comment out the following line so please try adding your basemap explictly. //var initBasemap = new esri.layers.ArcGISTiledMapServiceLayer("http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Topo_Map/MapServer"); //map.addLayer(initBasemap);

the console message about mime types isn't anything to worry about. are you loading a tiledMapServiceLayer immediately in your application? i mocked up a quick sample demonstrating how to add the basemap gallery widget to our layer list sample and it seems to be working just fine as long as I load a basemap prior to building the dynamic layer list. please forgive the messy formatting in jsfiddle 🙂 http://jsfiddle.net/jagravois/p4sdP/

because the CSS for the simple slider already has a "left" and "top" tag declared, its easier to manipulate them using important tags like in Kelly's examples than to use a "right" tag. to see whats already in the CSS for the simpleSlider, you can use developer tools in the browser to check the source of jsapi.css

i might be missing something here, but if you're already querying for your features and drawing them in a graphics layer on the client side, then there is no need to set up an additional identify task to be able to take advantage of popups. this is because the graphics layer itself already stores both the geometry and attributes of the features and has a setInfoTemplate() method which allows you to configure an infoWindow which will display automatically when you click on the feature. check out this fiddle to see how it works http://jsfiddle.net/jagravois/ndmJY/1/

thanks for taking the time to share your input. what do you think would be more appropriate behavior in the case that a user right clicks in the middle of drawing? in the case that a user accidently right clicks while drawing, it seems fairly intuitive to me that clicking "esc" or clicking again outside the context menu allows you to continue drawing verticies. if you suddenly right-click, the drawn graphic will remain on the map and it's like it is not even part of the map and there is no way to remove it. clicking "esc" is also helpful to clear a graphic in the middle of drawing (whether you have right-clicked or not) http://help.arcgis.com/EN/webapi/javascript/arcgis/demos/toolbar/toolbar_draw.html

i'm glad to hear you've isolated the cause of the error. please use HTTP as it is definitely the best practice for developing applications (big and small :)).

errors regarding CORS support shouldn't have any impact on the functionality of your web application. you should be able to copy and paste our samples and run them locally via HTTP (as long as a web server like IIS or Apache is installed) and "mash them up" for development purposes. what particular sample are you working with? is the problem only occurring when you load the HTML as a file rather than using HTTP?

starting at version 3.x of the Javascript API, we check for CORS support and use it when available. If you are working with ArcGIS Server machines that don't support CORS, you can safely ignore the messages which appear in the console. see the following link for more information http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/javascript/arcgis/help/jshelp/new_v30.html

It is not possible to create an MXD file using information supplied via map services and hosted in a Javascript application. You need to have access to the raw data used when the service was published.

i'm pretty sure commas are the appropriate way to separate values from multiple fields. "value": "Flood, Low", json example of layer rendered using multiple fields http://sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Petroleum/KGS_OilGasFields_Kansas/MapServer/0?f=pjson

its been my experience that utilizing a different underlying RDBMS when adapting local government samples is usually fine, as long as you remember that the applications expect that your data have the exact same schema as the included samples. i once noticed that it was necessary to update configuration files to account for the fact that PostGRES always converts fieldnames to lower case, so you'll definitely want to watch out for those sorts of "gotchas" when tackling the project yourself. also, while we are happy to provide assistance here. the local government forum is probably the best place to get specific information related to templates

I found a published sample which utilizes version 3.1 and displays results correctly, so you might try comparing and contrasting its code with what you have in 2.1 to see if any differences jump out at you. http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/javascript/arcgis/help/jssamples/find_map_datagrid.html

I took a look into this and the problem has been reported as [NIM045058: Javascript method setDecoration for TextSymbol Class is being ignored.] It also looks like setting the property equal to a known constant using the technique below also has no effect. textSymbol.decoration = "DECORATION_UNDERLINE"; Because decoration properties for text symbols are not supported in many browsers (IE 7, Firefox, Opera 9), I am not sure of the priority of this problem for the team. If you would like to attach your name to the list of customers affected by the bug, please don't hesitate. (note: my testing was conducted in Chrome and IE9)

I have to disagree with you there. onLayerAddResult is fired when you load a single layer (using map.addLayer()). onLayersAddResult is fired once when you load multiple layers simultaneously, while onLayerAddResult is also fired for each individual layer. this gives you the best of both worlds 🙂 Check out the doc for more info.
