since graphics are drawn on the client (and developers define their own symbology) there is no automated technique to retrieve legend swatches as you can when the symbology displayed is defined by the server.

nice troubleshooting! thanks for taking the time to share the exact fix for the problem. in working with another customer today i believe we pinpointed a similar problem when Oracle WebLogic was used for hosting. in version 10.3.3.0 of WebLogic, our JSP proxy worked out of the box, but it was necessary to make a few changes to get things up and running in version 8.1.4 because of the underlying version of Java in use.

i think i spoke too soon. it appears the code you posted is still working in our 3.2 sample. i'd still recommend stepping through the showResults function though.

the fact that results are being returned, but you are not able to draw associated graphics is a clue that things are going wrong in your showResults callback function. have you tried setting a breakpoint and stepping through that code to interrogate the values stored in each variable? i took a look at the dojo documentation and it seems that you can no longer use the syntax included in the code you attached starting at Dojo version 1.7. since we migrated to this underlying version of Dojo starting with version 3.0 of the Esri JavaScript API, is it possible that you are referencing a 3.x version in your production app, but not in your simplified sample?

our resource center definitely includes sample applications which overlay reprojected operational layers on top of a tiled basemap in a different projection. ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayers and FeatureLayers can reproject on the fly. ArcGISTiledMapServiceLayers cannot.

i ran a quick test in both Chrome and IE9 on my Windows 7 machine with the following test page and for me only the +/- on the numeric keypad can be used to zoom the map. even if i hold down SHIFT and click the +/= button on the main keyboard, the map does not zoom in. how are you getting the map to zoom in using the + on the main keyboard?

if you look at the function locateQuery (inside main.js), you can see that the author of this sample isn't using a locator task from our API, but rather esri.request to pass a query to the geocoding service. im guessing the reason for this has something to do with supporting autocomplete. unfortunately, you'll have to get a pretty good grasp on the logic of that code if you're going to take a stab at substituting your own geocoding service.

all that should be necessary to test my suggestion is a free personal arcgis.com account tied to an Esri Global ID (see the last paragraph of the following link for more information. its my understanding that paid subscription account is only required to take advantage of hosted feature and tiled map services or to store content within the cloud repository of a particular organization.

either an arcgis.com group or Portal installation is required if you would like to conveniently adapt the public maps gallery sample. see this thread for more information.

i've been thinking about this some more... if you'd like to create a gallery for your completed JavaScript applications you can register the URLs with your arcgis.com account and share the items with a group. i haven't done this myself, but i think that supplying some appropriate group credentials in your gallery app should be enough for you to use arcgis.com to query for specific applications in a gallery app. check out the application link below for an example. although the item is registered with arcgis.com, its hosted on a totally different server. http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=6e36e6dc4bb04c069ceba3a50d9471d8 this won't allow you to present map/feature services etc, but it could be a cool way to link to completed web apps.
