Hi, I've taken the Geometry Operations - Distance sample from the 10.1.1 SDK samples and changed it in two ways, both of which provide strange or no results. First: Inputs are two user created polylines. The output is a valid distance between the lines assuming they don't intersect. If they intersect, it provides a value that seems strange and incorrect. I would expect a distance of "0" but instead I get a positive integer value that is either very large or very small depending on the length of the first line segment. Second: Inputs are a user created polyline and a user created polygon. Distance operation doesn't fail it just times out after about 30 seconds and doesn't do anything. Is this a known issue and is there a workaround? Thanks, Aaron

I'm interested in seeing an ESRI response to this question. If this is not possible, will it be included in a future release?

Hi, Is it possible to set up pooling and/or multiple instances for a LocalGeometryService on the local server? If not, is it possible to start multiple instances of the local server each with their own LocalGeometryService? The "IsBusy" property on the server is not reliable if many concurrent requests are sent to a service. Thanks.

The moving graphics sample won't be valid for his use case, as he states, We are using a GraphicsLayer and MarkerSymbols w/ a custom control template. We are also using custom clustering logic which seems to help when turned on. These features are not compatible with the AcceleratedDisplay (which that sample uses).

Hi, I'm attempting to edit local shapefiles and have gotten as far as loading them in the map and manipulating them with an EditGeometryusing the examples posted in this thread: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/75915-How-to-open-shape-file-in-ArcGIS-Runtime-WPF-SDK-as-Graphics-Feature-layer However when I attempt to replace the LocalMapService with a LocalFeatureService, I run into problems with the LocalFeatureLayer never getting the shapefile data source. Is it possible to apply permanent edits to a local shapefile using the ArcGIS WPF API? I'm interested in editing both the attribute table as well as the geometry, but a solution that provides either/or would be great. EDIT: I'd like to note that pre-baking the shapefile into an MPK isn't an option as a user may not always have access to ArcGIS desktop. Thanks, Aaron

ConstrainExtentBehavior exists in ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Behaviors, that reference must be added to the project to use the behavior. It's not apparent in the SDK samples, but that should resolve the issue.

If you are just displaying the polygon as defined by points couldn't you use the approach where the background of the map is set instead of making a separate "background" polygon? <Window x:Class="ArcGISWpfApplication1.MainWindow"

Hi, I'm intermittently experiencing an error when rapidly changing map scales (i.e. from very large to very small, or vice-versa) wherein my application will crash. It appears that the LayerCanvas.ArrangeOverride is, for some reason, attempting to set an invalid Width property on the FrameworkElement's dependency property. Based on this link, it appears that the issue was carried over from the Silverlight API: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14051823/unhandled-error-in-silverlight-application-code-4004-system-argumentexception. Has anyone else encountered this problem and been able to work around it? The following is a snippet of the stack trace with the offending method: System.ArgumentException: '-907.750834278924' is not a valid value for property 'Width'.

Assuming the following: center.X = Width/2 center.Y = Height/2 xRadius = Width/2 yRadius = Height/2 You could create an ellipse by slightly modifying the code posted in this thread (quoted below with my modifications): http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/77161-draw-circles-on-the-graphics-layer?p=270965&viewfull=1#post270965 private ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Geometry.Polygon DrawCircle(ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Geometry.MapPoint center, double radius, int pointsCount = 360) {
ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Geometry.Polygon p = new ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Geometry.Polygon();
ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Geometry.PointCollection pcol = new ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Geometry.PointCollection();
double slice = 2 * Math.PI / pointsCount;
for (int i = 0; i <= pointsCount; i++) {
double rad = slice * i;
double px = center.X + xRadius * Math.Cos(rad);
double py = center.Y + YRadius * Math.Sin(rad);
pcol.Add(new ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Geometry.MapPoint(px, py));
}
p.Rings.Add(pcol);
return p;
}

Hi, I still am curious about this issue. Is there a way to set font weight on an ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.Symbols.TextSymbol? I suppose one could create a custom subclass, but then the can has been kicked down the road and a problem will be created if ported to use AcceleratedDisplay (i.e. Runtime for .NET). Thanks, Aaron

Hello, If I am using a map package as a LocalDynamicMapServiceLayer, LocalFeatureLayer, or otherwise and that map package contains, for example, raster elevation data, how might I apply a Renderer (such as an ESRI.ArcGIS.Client.ClassBreaksRenderer) to change the symbology of that data on-the-fly and in real time? For example, if I have elevation data ranging from 0m - 2000m and I would like to change the class breaks for the symbology of that layer on a very rapid basis, can that be accomplished with the above methodology? If not, what is the ideal way to change raster symbology? There must be an efficient way to do this in the API somewhere. Thanks, Aaron

You might try a SimpleLineSymbol to render the ellipse itself and then use a SimpleFillSymbol to do the interior. This link (http://tilonthuduc.blogspot.com/2012/07/a-hatch-drawing-brush-for-wpf-in-visual.html) provides information on porting GDI+ hatch brushes to WPF, which will work with a SimpleFillSymbol.

Are you talking about the UseAcceleratedDisplay property or the AcceleratedDisplay property on the map control? I already have UseAcceleratedDisplay set to false. UseAcceleratedDisplay = false solved the unmanaged memory leak for me.

In my usage, the AcceleratedDisplay leaks unmanaged memory at a very high rate when automated operations occur on it at a high rate (i.e. a DispatcherTimer doing something to the map or layers therein every n milliseconds). Disabling the AcceleratedDisplay solved this issue for me.
