Hi Mark, Yes it still does unfortunately. It will zoom to the area of the points and just hang and become unresponsive. And I will need to go into Task Manager to shut down the program manually.

Have you tried: In the 'Home' tab -> 'Manage Layers' -> select the layer and 'Clear Cache'?

I am not sure if this will help, but at the ESRI User Conference, a guy who did a presentation on their implementation of ArcExplorer said to rename the .EAZ file instead of overwriting it. So what they did was to place a date eg. AddIn_07152013.EAZ instead of just AddIn.EAZ. I have yet to try it myself.

I can't figure out why my ArcExplorer won't map anything and hangs when I add ANY layers created by ArcMap with 'Label Features' turned on. The layer will work fine with 'Label Features' is turned off, so it is not a data problem. I am using ArcExplorer 2500. I know I can convert my labels into annotation but I spoken with the ESRI tech @ the UC conference last week saying that there shouldn't be any issue with dynamic labeling. Any one with ideas on how I can trouble shoot this? I am working with a work station and I pass the system check from the ESRI website. Thank you.

I've been tinkering with this all morning now. To get the most accuracy out of linear referencing, I needed to create the "From" and "To" columns based off the 3d lengths of individual line segments instead of letting Arc generalize the distances. Thanks for your help again.

Hi Wayne, Thank you for your help. I finally figured out the steps to get this to work correctly about 80% of the time now. Instead of create route using the single line, I found that I needed to split the line at the vertices to get the individual segments and calc their 3d length in the attribute table using calc geometry. After that, use linear referencing to create route and then go into edit session and use the split tool to split by measured distance. The reason for working only 80% of time is because now I am working with a different line and the created route distance just doesn't match up with the 3d length for some reason (I tried the above steps for 5 different lines now and it worked like a charm.). Do you have much experience in linear referencing by chance, I am having a hard time trying to figure where to post this new error I have in the forum. I think the error is caused by how the tool calculates the route, but I am not sure.

Wayne thank you for your quick reply. The problem with this is not finding the midpoint unfortunately. What I am trying to find is the point location on a 3d line with the 3d length of 10170 ft (without using XYZ coordinates). The 3d line itself is 16108.6 ft long. I have tried converting the line into a polyline zm and used linear referencing, but that didn't give me a correct 3d length.

Wayne, You are correct. The calculate Geometry can determine the XYZ of the midpoint of a polyline Z. Your solution solved this thread. Unfortunately, mine problem is still there. I can't seem to determine how to find a point based of a 3d measured length. I've started a new thread with my problem here. http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/86249-Locating-a-Depth-in-Polyline-Z?p=304685#post304685 Any help/ ideas would be appreciated.

Hi, Did you ever end up finding an answer for this? I am in a similar debacle, I need to split a 3d line at a certain 3d length. As you mentioned, the split tool only splits in 2d. I have also tried converting polyline z to polyline zm and tried using linear referencing, but it didn't give the correct answer. After I made the split I did a 3d calculate of the length of the result and it didn't match to the location where I wanted to split. Any ideas? Thank you.

Hi, I am stumped. I am trying to locate a point on a 3D line with a measured depth 10170 feet. I am having difficulties of trying to locate the point only using a measured depth number. The 3D line was created from XYZs points. Any help would be appreciated. I have attached the sample line file. Thank you.

It's probably easier if you read the thread below. I ran and posted the same error you had and started that thread. The solution should be in there for you. http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/75735-Make-XY-Event-Layer-in-Python-Crashes-But-Not-in-Model-Builder

FYI- If you have an instance of ArcMap or ArcCatalog thats pointing to the database, then there is always a lock file. Try closing your instances of ArcMap/ Catalog and run the script again.

You might have the same problem as I had. Are you running 64bit? Try and create a batch file: Change C:\YourScriptLocation.py to the location of your script. And run the batch file. C:\python27\ArcGIS10.1\python.exe C:\YourScriptLocation.py

Thank you all for the suggestions. Wayne you were right about the 32/64 bit. Apparently I was running the 64bit python instead of the 32bit. I created a batch to run the script in 32 bit and it worked perfectly. Now I just need to figure out how to hard code it into the scripts when I create them in the future. Thanks you all again for your help!
