Hello, The current workflow I have for creating parcels is to first start by building a section. Then I use the "construct from parent" option to create quarter-quarter sections. I then build my parcels from the quarter-quarter sections as many of my parcels are not described by metes and bounds, but instead by the quarter quarter section(s). For building quarter quarter sections from a parent section, I discovered that I can use the breakline tool, or the linestring tool. I would like to know which option is better. Breakline Option: Select "construct from parent" from the original section For the west line select "breakline" calculate 1/4 of the line length enter that length in 4 times, select "proportion with remaining distance" then press "ok" repeat for the north, east, and south side connect the vertices to create 16 quarter quarter sections Linestring Option: Select "construct from parent" from the original section For the west line select "un-buildable" use the segmented line tool to create 4 segments from the northwest corner to the southwest corner. repeat for the north, east, and south side connect the vertices to create 16 quarter quarter sections NOTE This request assumes that I am working with a "perfect" 640 Acre section that does not include a government lot or a fractional quarter. Thanks

FYI: 1) Someone mentioned to me that moving the parcel fabric to a local drive, instead of on the network made the parcel editor faster. That seems to have helped out. 2) Another issue I had with my application is that ArcGIS seemed crash prone. ESRI support mentioned if that I should clear C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Local Caches. It seems to have helped.

I need to apologize, I forgot to reply back to Christine. If I remember correct, This is the workflow that I used for this area. I don't think this is the best workflow, so it does not come with any guarantees. Nor can I say that this is simple as it should be. 1) Drew in the parcel from the legal. Since the points on the parcel did not fit within the tolerance, I ignored the error, and left the gap. 2) Unjoined the new parcel. 3) Deleted the other parcel in that quarter section. 4) Rejoined the new parcel, this time forcing it to snap to the lines. 5) Then I used the parcel remainder tool to build the other parcel in the quarter-section. Or I might have selected "Construct from parent" again.

When using the field calculator on a field that has a domain, the calculator should include a dropdown of the domain values. This was the original Idea that was is related to
https://community.esri.com/ideas/5209
Domain List in Field Calculator
Ability to select from domain values in field calculator (now marked as Duplicates)
These are all common to needing to be able to validate the attribute values that are populated into a field with a domain applied - not only when editing individual records, but also when using the Field Calculator, or the Calculate Field geoprocessing tool.
From Comments in all of these Ideas, we see that:
1. When using Field Calculator, the request is for drop-down/pick list functionality pulling from the domain that is applied to the field - the effect is that the attributes are validated, and the user experience is simplified;
2. It is still desirable to be able to calculate into a field with a domain applied. However, the results of the calculation should be validated against the domain applied to the field.
Please add clarifying Comments and continue voting on this Idea.

Have you tried authoring the MXD with the scalebar anchor position at Center, Center rather than lower left? Jeff Jeff, Yes I have, however even if the anchor position of the scale bar element is centered, the scale bar will still draw from the left hand side of the element making the scale bar appear as if it is not centered. In the attached image you will notice that even with a center anchor, the scale bar is not in the center of the element.

Hello, Is there a way that we can center the the scale bar on our map? By default, it appears that the scale bar is left justified, which is not appropriate for data driven pages. Thanks

Hello, I am using Data Driven Pages to create a mapbook of several cities within a county. My legend includes an area of interest layer. I would like to automatically remove items from the layer if they are not found in the map extent. For example, I would like to remove the University class from the area of interest layer in the legend if the data driven page does not have a university in the map. For Example: City A -Airport -University -School -Park City B -Airport -School -Park City C - School - Park Thanks

FYI Feature Class to Feature Class allows you to rename all the fields in a single step in Model Builder. I still had to go through and rename all the fields from tablename.fieldname to fieldname. But at least I was able to complete the process in a single step on model builder.

Hello, I am joining a table to a layer in Model Builder, then exporting the layer to a new feature class. When I join, then export the data all of my fields are renamed to SourceTableName.FieldName. I would rather that the fields in the exported feature class not include the name of the source table. Here is an example of the current fields: TaxData.PIN OwnerData.Owner Desired: PIN Owner ************************* Solutions: 1) Go through "add field, and calculate field" for each of my fields (about 30 in total). This solution is very unfriendly ************************** How can I instead: 1) rename fields in the geodatabase via model builder? 2) have ArcMap / ArcCatalog not rename fields to table.field when joining data? 3) when exporting the feature class use the alias as the names of the field on the export?

Hello, I have been using "construct from parent" to create my parcel dataset. My experience so far is that when adding new construction lines the endpoint generally snaps to points in the current fabric. I have a new parcel that follows the north line of a quarter for a small distance. This legal does not have a given distance between the point where the new parcel meets the north line and any other point on the north line of the quarter, therefore, I cannot create a breakline to force the parcel to match the north line. As a result I am getting a gap between the current parcel and my new parcel. In the attached image: In the attached document I need to point 37, and 38 to be placed on the line between 9 and 8. I do not have a given distance from point 9 to 37 or 8 to 38. So I cannot create a breakline. How can I make the points 37 and 38 fit on the line between 9 and 8? I did adjust Parcel Editor>Options>Tolerances> Point matching, and Auto-Join settings. those adjustments did not seem to make a difference.

Christine, I apologize for the late response. The link helps a little bit. It will be very helpful in situations where I need to draw plats that contain known distances between points. What I am really looking for is a convenient way to divide a section into 16 quarter sections. In this case I will need to divide a line into equal segments. I am aware that I can manually calculate the distances that a line needs to be. However, having to use windows calculator is slow, and would hope that there is a more efficient workflow. Jaso2k, just a quick reply to your response: 1) Thank you. I figured out I was able to use the same construction to build parcels then lots. 2) I know I can turn labels on and off by layer. What I want to do is configure the annotation layer to display dimensions that are tied to parcels. 3) resolved itself after a restart
