I am having a strange issue when creating mobile map packages in ArcGIS Pro for use in the Explorer. It used to work fine, but suddenly it no longer works and I'm not sure if the issue is with ArcGIS Pro or Explorer. In ArcGIS Pro, I have a layer with a custom pop-up with a custom URL that links to Survey123 that transfers some attribute values to it. All of a sudden this week, it no longer works. I noticed in the custom URL in Pro, it has has three slashes after arcgis-survey123 (arcgis-survey123:///?itemID....) when according to the ESRI documentation, it should only have two. I don't remember if it originally had two or if it always had three slashes. Regardless, it has three slashes now, but it will not let me change it to two slashes. I type in two slashes, hit apply, close out of it, re-open it, and it has three slashes again. Even stranger, after generating the mmpk, anything before the Survey123 URL is visible, but anything including and after the Survey123 URL disappears. So if I have text after the Survey123 URL, it doesn't display. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not sure if this is an issue with ArcGIS Pro or Explorer.

A hosted feature service basically just copies your data (in this case the data in your ArcMap document) to the ArcGIS Data Store. Any changes you make to it will not be reflected in the original source location (your EGDB). You'll need to register your data source with your ArcGIS Server if you want any changes made in Portal to be reflected back in your EGDB. When you register your data source with server and then publish, you will see the feature layer as a "Feature Layer" and not "Feature Layer (hosted)" in Portal. Also, when publishing in ArcMap, you will need to make an ArcGIS Server connection, and not a hosted services connection. Once you make an ArcGIS Server connection, select that connection when you go to publish your map document. Then when you go to analyze before clicking the "Publish" button, you will see a message about the data source not being registered with the server. Within our ArcGIS Organization (for both Online and Enterprise), I would like to see a "View as User" option. Currently, the only way to troubleshoot issues users are reporting is to either create a temporary account with the exact same permissions as the user, or to ask the user for their password so I can sign in as them to troubleshoot the issue. I propose that for administrators of the organization, there is a button something like "View as User" or "View Item as User" and we can select the user who we want to view the item as. This will greatly decrease the amount of time it takes me to troubleshoot issues people report. An example use case: Someone in the field calls and reports layers in the web map aren't working. I view the web map logged in as me (administrator), but it works for me because I am an administrator. Instead of creating a test account or asking for their password, I would like to be able to view the web map as a specific user so I can better and more quickly troubleshoot the issue.

I found a solution to this. I discovered that only Portal administrator accounts were able to create sites, even if non-administrators were in the sites administrators group. It turns out that the geometry service item in Portal was not shared with the organization. Once I shared it, it resolved the error message posted above.

This appears to be limited to a specific user. Other accounts within the same Portal are able to access and create sites, just not this particular user. The user is a publisher and has been added to the sites administration group.

The way that I know how to do it is from the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory. From the home screen, go to data > items > /enterpriseDatabases > select your data store from the list > machines > then you should have both your primary and standby machine listed there. You can click on each machine and next to "Role" it will list either primary or standby.

I have recently changed the data source for some of the web maps I have on Portal from Microsoft SQL Server to PostgreSQL. What comes along with this is Microsoft SQL is not case sensitive, while PostgreSQL is case sensitive. While I can take case sensitivity into consideration in ArcMap when searching by attribute (such as using LOWER(field name)), I do not know of a way to do this through Portal web maps when filtering by attributes. I have end users that would like to be able to filter, but don't necessarily know the case of the letters when filtering. Is there a way to use UPPER/LOWER functions in the Portal web maps like in ArcMap when selecting by attribute? Or any other method of searching by attribute without it being case sensitive?

I'm sorry, I completely forgot that I posted this. Deleting the actual hosted feature service itself will delete the data. But I don't want to delete an entire feature service just to delete the data, because then I'll just have to re-create it. Deleting records through the hosted feature service through ArcGIS Pro only deletes it from our view in Pro/Portal, but it doesn't actually delete any content because the space available never increases (this is after deleting thousands of records with thousands of picture attachments). I did ask this question at the UC and the solution was to disable and re-enable sync in the hosted feature service settings in Portal. While that did work.....it also wrecked the feature service (from a Survey123 form). That solution might work on basic feature services, but I have some more complicated ones with related tables/attachments. I'm not having an issue with backups as they are getting stored on our file share and not on the VM itself.

After moving a production database to a brand new VM and having web maps pull from it, I am now receiving this message again. While web map performance has significantly increased, we still receive this error message (although the frequency of this message has decreased). Regardless, this error message is severely hampering our ability to deploy web maps to users as this causes a large productivity drop because the web maps are practically unusable until I either restart the feature service, or the user waits about 15-20 minutes. With this happening multiple times per day to multiple people, the lost time adds up quickly. This message appears to be happening on layers that are edited a lot on the web map. Does anyone have any solutions to this?

In ArcGIS Pro 2.2.3, I am having an issue with allowing the assignment of unique numeric IDs for sharing web layers. In the past, when having that option selected in the data frame properties, I was able to add new layers to the map, re-publish it and everything would be maintained within my Portal web maps. All of a sudden, it appears that is no longer working. When re-publishing feature services with that option checked, it now re-assigns layer IDs to the new layer that I added and any layers below it. So if there are 10 layers, and I add a new layer 8th from the top, it will re-assign layer IDs from layers 8-11. I didn't have this issue in the past, but now I am. I noticed that the layer ID in ArcGIS Pro for all of my layers is -1. Would that have something to do with the issue I'm having? When I've done this in the past in ArcMap, it would assign a different number and not just -1.

I have gotten mixed answers on that one. It might depend on how many layers you have in your feature service. If you have a small number of layers, I would say leaving them in one feature service is fine. If you have a large number of layers, it's possible separating them out might be beneficial. You might need to do some testing to see where you get best performance. If you have any data that doesn't change often at all, I would recommend those layers being cached.

When overwriting, it does not create a new feature service. The item stays the same in Portal and the web maps that contains the feature services will still continue to work. However, a word of warning when overwriting feature services. In the data frame properties, I recommend checking the box next to: "Allow assignment of unique numeric IDs for sharing web layers." This comes in handy when you want to add new layers to the feature service in Pro, and then overwrite the feature service. If you do not have this checked, your item ID's can potentially change and it will mess up the web maps that contains the feature services, and you will have to remove and re-add the feature service within the web map. You can avoid this by checking the box. With that being said, if you have already published a feature service without that box checked, then check it and re-publish, your layer ID's might change and might affect the web map.
