Rachel: Are you able to provide a screen shot of the locator properties (geocoding options, reference table)? What do the input addresses look like? Are they just the street address (380 New York St) in a single field similar to the illustration in this help topic? http://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/data/geocoding/about-geocoding-a-table-of-addresses.htm

Kyle: In ArcGIS Pro it is possible to use suggestions for custom address locators you have created with suggestions enabled as long as you publish them as a geocode service, then add the service into to the project. Local locators currently do not support suggestions in Pro, only services. There are a few other ways to accomplish this depending on what applications and environment you have. If you have ArcGIS Enterprise 10.5+ and have a federated server, you can share 'addloc' to your Enterprise portal, then add the locator item to the project from the portal and use the suggestions in Pro. Publish a locator to your portal—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop ,Set properties on locators shared to your portal—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop Use the Python script at the bottom of the following topic along with the ags connection created in ArcMap or ArcCatalog with publisher or admin permission to publish the locator to a non-federated server in ArcGIS Enterprise. Then access the geocode service through a GIS server connection (see option 3). CreateGeocodeSDDraft—ArcPy Functions | ArcGIS Desktop In ArcMap or ArcCatalog, publish the locator as a geocode service to ArcGIS Server. Then add a GIS server connection to the server in ArcGIS Pro or add the existing ags connection used in ArcMap, where you can then add the geocode service to the project and use suggestions in the Locate pane. Connect to a GIS server—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop -Shana

Dave: To clarify, in 10.4.1 are you creating the locator with sql db features as the reference data, but the locator is stored in a folder? Or are you using the data and storing the locator in sql db? If you are storing the locator in the sql geodatabase, it is recommended that you store the locator in a file folder. Which locator style are you using to create the Locator? -Shana

Brian, For the address that is circled in the screenshot is the street type in the field "CL" or "ci"? I think the value is an uppercase "i" versus a lowercase "L" , which is shown in the locate pane. I created a table with the address in question and found that "jaywin ci" doesn't match in either the table when batch geocoding or in the Locate pane.

Lisa: Based on your screen shots: The format of your table looks good, but you may need to add an underscore _ to the end of the Date and Time fields to avoid any conflicts with reserved words. You are using the Esri World Geocoder to batch geocode the table, but in order to use the service you need to be signed into ArcMap with your ArcGIS Online organization user name and password and your ArcGIS Online organization account must have geocoding permissions. If you have a public ArcGIS Online account you will only be able to geosearch (locate an address one at a time) with the Esri World Geocoder in ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro. Working with the ArcGIS Online World Geocoding Service—Help | ArcGIS Desktop Attempt1 is correct as long as you are signed into ArcGIS Online with an organization account with geocoding permissions to use the Esri World Geocoder. Using the Singleline field is the best option based on the info in your table. Attempt2 has incorrect field mapping for Multiple Fields because the Singleline field already contains the address, city, state, and zip code components of the address, so there is no need to select the other individual city, state, zip code fields. If you mapped 'Incidents' field to "Address or Place", dropped Singleline from Address2 and kept city, state, zipcode fields you would match most of the records that are not names of businesses. You may want to check if your school has an ArcGIS Online organization that you are a part of or have access to or if they provide other online services that you can use or possibly StreetMap Premium locators. -Shana

There is a default set of locators that get loaded when you launch ArcMap. These default locators are stored in the DefaultLocators.xml file, where there is a system version and a user specific version. You could add your locator on the network to the list of default locators in the DefaultLocators.xml file, then deploy this file to the end user machines and add it to their system or user location. Once added each time you launch ArcMap the new default locator will be loaded and available for your users in the Find Tool. This also applies to ArcReader and it is recommended that you do not store your address locators in any geodatabase format (file, personal, sde). For more details see this help topic, Setting default locators in ArcMap—Help | ArcGIS Desktop .

About how many features are in the shapefile that contain all of the streets for all of the counties in the state? What version of ArcMap are you using? Do you have 64-bit Background Geoprocessing installed? Background Geoprocessing (64-bit)—Help | ArcGIS Desktop , Foreground and background processing—Help | ArcGIS Desktop The reason I ask about 64-bit Background Geoprocessing is because if you are working with millions of features it is best to run the Create Address Locator tool in the background with 64-bit geoprocessing installed.

Bug BUG-000105837 is more of the Server/Enterprise documentation not telling you of the suggestions limitation with geocode services that you create from your own locators. The suggestion limitation was resolved in the Esri World service last June. We will be including info about the limitation for customer created geocode services in the documentation for the 10.6.1 release. Bug BUG-000094346 is regarding invalid house numbers and suggestions, this behavior exists for all of the out of the box locator styles that search for house addresses in 10.5.1 & 10.6, more discussion and details can be found at https://community.esri.com/thread/164282#comment-717731. We are actively working on making the suggestion fixes in the Online service available to customers when they create their own locators and services, but do not have a time frame for when it will be released. If you want to be able to search just on street name and get suggestions for street names, it's recommended to use the Street Name style. I have not seen any reports regarding the geocode service memory leak based on a Single Field locator w/o suggestions. I would still suggest using the Gazetteer locator style to build a locator with suggestions and use it as a geocode service to make use of the spelling logic that is not in the Single Field style. The leak for the Single Field style based geocode service is not resolved for 10.5-10.6. You may find this info helpful for creating a Gazetteer locator https://community.esri.com/people/cdufault-esristaff/blog/2018/03/02/gazetteer-geolocator-best-practices-and-ram-requirements

Brian, It would be more helpful if you could provide the locator you created or a screen shot of the Durham locator properties Reference data tables page like the one below and the 'About the locator' page from the properties. You could create a locator package if you wanted to share it here or send it to me in private message.

Joe, The Match without zone property is the same for Pro. The US Address and General styles are essentially the same in Pro as in ArcMap. There may be times where the Pro version of the style template might be more current than the style included with ArcMap because of the development and release cycle of Pro.

Michael: The General - Single Field style is designed to be used to search for unique names or string values such as census tracts, parcel id numbers, place names, meter numbers to name a few. The type of search that is performed is an exact look up of what is in the reference data for the mapped Single Key field. General - Single Field style The General - Gazetteer style uses search logic that will take into account spelling instead of an exact search, so if the reference data has "Carmel by the sea" in Californi as the city or place name, you could search for 'Carmel' California and get a match or candidates returned, whereas the Single Field locator would be expecting an exact input of "Carmel by the sea". The Gazetteer style can be used to search for the same unique features that you would use the Single Field locator, but it handles suggestions better than Single Field. General - Gazetteer style Have you tried the Gazetteer style yet with suggestions in your application/workflow? Are you using the Single Field style to search for addresses? It's not recommended style to use for searching for addresses if your reference data is point or polygon geometry. The US Address - Single House style is the style that should be used when you have point or polygon (parcels, tax lots) geometry that you want to use as the reference data for the locator. -Shana

I wrote this technical article regarding the 'Match with no zones' geocoding option in the locator properties, which applies to ArcMap & ArcGIS Server/Enterprise 10.1+ and all versions of ArcGIS Pro. https://support.esri.com/en/technical-article/000011688 I had answered the same question in detail on the old community forums, but it is no longer accessible from what I can tell. I"ll need to poke around to see if they are backed up somewhere or not. https://community.esri.com/message/147473?commentID=147473#comment-147473
