Good Day Guru's, We have 2 geodatbases 1. ArcSDE 9.3, Oracle 11g, ArcCatalog 2. ArcSDE 10.0, Oracle 11g, ArcCatalog-ArcINFO Now, i have a dataset in 1st geodatabase, and the same dataset under same schema exist in 2nd geodatabase. 1st Geodatabase gets updated frequently. I want to synchronize these updates in 2nd geodatabase. Could you please let me know Whether these datasets must to be versioned ? Whether synchronization could be done from 9.3 to 10.0/10.1 ArcSDE? Thanks Your earliest response is highly appreciated -AS

Dear Gurus, Can you please let me know how to migrate feature class(s) which is/are registered as version and archiving is enabled on it From: Database Environment: RHEL 5, Oracle 11.2.0.2, ArcSDE 9.3, SDEBINARY To Database Environment: RHEL 6, Oracle 11.2.0.3.0, ArcSDE 10.1, ST_Geometry I used import feature class tool and copy tool to migrate these feature classes, but they succeded only in feature class data and no versioned/archiving stuff was found in destination database. Please let me know the best practice for this.... Best Regards Abdullah Saleh

I can't think of a single reason why that command should ever be run as user SDE. The SDE user should be reserved for ArcSDE instance administration. The SDE user should not ever own spatial data (treat it like a restricted admin account). - V I too agree with you, Vince... Actually the command is run by the SDE User, but the layer is owned by another user. It was just to show the example. Actual command looks like this $ sdelayer -o describe_long -i 5151 -l LayerOwner.LayerName,ColumnName -u sde -s ServerName Thanks for your inputs. Regards -AS

Vince thanks for your input.. While trying to find a workaround, i found the below command worked instead.. sdelayer -o describe_long -i 5151 -l LayerName,Column -u sde -s ServerName I found the below link to find a workaround... http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/2309-A-problem-seemed-silly-cannot-connect-to-SDE-service Thanks to "Yu De" -AS

So your subject line is a non-sequitur, because the spatial index is never used in a full-extent query. In fact, if you forced a full-extent query to use the spatial index, it would be much slower. All you're seeing is the difference between a LONG RAW query and a LOB query. Oracle deprecated LONG RAW use more than a decade ago, and it fails frequently at some sites, so you really shouldn't be using it. You can gain some of that perfromance back by proactively managing your coordinate reference parameters -- Instead of defaulting to the -400,-400,1billion XY offsets and scale, try using -400,-400,1million. Lopping off those extra digits will cut the storage requirements (at the cost of going from sub-millimeter to sub-decimeter precision). - V Great tip vince, I tried with -400, -400, 1 million. it drastically changed the access speed. Your inputs are really benificial. Do you suggest any more changes ? With Best Regards, -AS

7 vs 17 seconds to do what? Draw the entire layer? - V It takes 7 seconds in 9.3 to draw entire layer and takes 17 seconds in 10.1. I tried analyse, rebuilding Spatial indexes etc. It did not worked out. -AS

Did you just change it in the file, or did you change it in the file then use 'sdedbtune' to update it in the SDE.DBTUNE table? Please mark FJ's answer as the solution. - V Hi Angelo, I exported dbtune, made changes and imported it back.. I think the issue is with SQL Developer, when i view the details for tables, it shows null in Tablespace. But just now when i viewd properties by selecting EDIT it showed me the correct tablespace. Any ways the answer given be FOJO helped me to correct the mistake of quote placement. Thanks FOJO, Vince Regards

Dear Admins, I imported a layer containing polygon features around 25000 records from Geodatabase (9.3) to Geodatabase(10.1), it created a layer, attribute index and spatial index as usual. I found that the layer is much more faster in 9.3 than in 10.1, for sure it is not because of version change. For tuning i tried Analyse, Rebuild Spatial Index too I was wondering what measures could help me to improve layer process faster ? How to create a spatial index in an efficient way ? Is it OK if we do not create a spatial index ? 9.3 Environment: RHEL 5, Oracle 11.2.0.2.0, ArcSDE 9.3 SP1 10.1 Environment: RHEL 6, Oracle 11.2.0.3.0, ArcSDE 10.1 SP1 Waiting eagerly for replies Thanks Abdullah
