Dear All, In ArcCatalog, a layer in geodatabase, shows the table but when i switch to geography option it shows nothing. I tried to open that layer in ArcMap it gives out below error "Warning, Inconsistent extent One or more of the added layers has an extent that is not consistent with the assosciated spatial reference information. Reprojecting the data in such a layer may lead to unexpected behaviour. Use ArcCatalog to confirm the spatial reference is correct and adjust if necessary" When i checked sde logs, i found error "Load_buffer error -51 on layername, rowid -1" Previous day it was working fine. Environment: RHEL 5, Oracle 11.2.0.2.0, ArcSDE 9.3 SP1 Please look into this issue. -Abdullah

Update: The above error is resolved by fixing the privilege. i.e. granting the privilege execute on DBMS_SQL to the Schema account. But unfortunately, the paste once again failed as it gives out below error, "Failed to paste "LayerName" Underlying DBMS error [ORA-04020: deadlock detected while trying to lock object SDE.ST_DOMAIN_METHODS] Trying to resolve this issue ..... Thanks all for excellent support. The issue behind the scene was related to oracle user's expired credentials. It was continiously trying to connect through a service leading to large number of process creation in Oracle. As there was no successful connection, no information entry found in Process_Information table. Resetting the password worked out and processes got back to normal. -Abdullah Saleh

Dear Admins, When a user initiates a connection through ArcGIS Desktop application. It creates a process in Oracle RDBMS. as user disconnects or exits the application, the Oracle process must quit i beleive, but it is remaining back in Oracle RDBMS as Orphaned process leading to hang the system as at a point it is reaching maximum number of processes allowed. Please help me out with your great ideas and experiences. Environment: ORACLE RDBMS 11g, ArcSDE 9.3, RHEL 5, TCPKEEPALIVE=TRUE Thanks in advance Abdullah

You should probably contact Tech Support, since I don't think your install procedure succeeded. Your alternative is to reinstall from scratch, then if it fails again, contact Tech Support. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DROP THE SDE USER WHILE GIS DATA OWNERS HAVE TABLES WITH ST_GEOMETRY TYPE COLUMNS -- THIS WILL CORRUPT YOUR ORACLE INSTANCE. - V Even i doubt that the SDE tablespaces are not as less as 35MB. I will cross check the space SDE System tables aquires, if anyone else has the ArcSDE 10.1 installed. Anyways thank you so much for the guidence. Will share the updates with you. Thanks -AS

I alloted 1GB for SDE tablespace. It is filled 3.5%. i.e. 35MB only. Is it normal ? Thanks for you interest -AS

Dear Admins, We installed new server with RHEL 6, Oracle 11.2.0.3.0, ArcSDE 10.1. Our old server is on RHEL 5, Oracle 10.2.0.3, ArcSDE 9.3. When i tried to import the feature class to new server or copy the feature class from old to new one, migrate storage etc. I faced errors given below. I donot know whether it is because of the change of Geometry type, as in 9.3 we used to have SDEBINARY and in 10.1 we have ST_BINARY. Please look into this issue. 1. Error 000210: Cannot create output Database Connections\ ... 2. Failed to paste [FeatureClassName] Underlying DBMS error [ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA- 04063 ... ORA- 06508 ... 3. ERROR 000955: Error encountered migrating the database storage ... Thanks Abdullah

As i was guessing, Since the user stopped running heavy caching process, SDE is back to normal. We do not face any HANG's now. Thanks all for your contribution. -AS

I repeat: There is no way to trace a hang in the ArcSDE logs. Keep in mind that a service hang is 'giomgr' failure, while an application crash is 'gsrvr' failure. There should be no correlation at all between the two (except an unsupported database release). - V PS: Migration to 10.1 won't help with an old Oracle instance. ArcSDE 9.3 and 10.1 were both certified with Oracle 10.2.0.3. If you're not running at least 10.2.0.3, then that is the cause of your hangs. It will be RHEL 6.2, Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition 11.2.0.3.0 64bit Production, ArcSDE 10.1 -AS

The best possible source for Oracle hangs is using Oracle 10.2.0.1 (which is unsupported) (and very buggy -- it should not be used). All 9.3 instances should have been upgraded to 9.3.1 SP2 years ago, after it was released. There is no way to trace a hang in the ArcSDE logs. - V Vince I agree with you to move our system to the recommended versions. And we are planned to migrate to 10.1 within few days. Meanwhile i need to support the users, and struggling for that. I hope you understand the situation. Dear Let me ask you a question I feel that some limitations which are set in GIOMGR is been exceeded by a user who is running cache process. Is there a way to find the entries in GIOMGR has been exceeded by any process that leads to HANGING ? Thanks for your support -AS
