@ClintonMcComb1 Sorry for the delay. We've tried to replicate the scenario you describe, but haven't seen the strange geometry output. If you can, please share a dataset that reproduces with Esri Technical Support.

"When attempting the same on a second island, there is now a warning message when selecting the Ligurian Sea as the target that says "The current selection includes features or rows that are invalid for this operation." The Active Select tool that's built into Clip... ...doesn't allow selections to be made that aren't valid for Clip. Other selection methods (core select tool, attribute table, select by attributes, etc) can select any kind of feature - even 'invalid' features for the tool. Invalid could mean non-editable or perhaps standalone table records are selected inadvertently. A bit more info here: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/editing/select-features-for-editing.htm --- "I select the input or the target polygon for each tab using the attribute table because the pull down selection tab in the clip pane does not allow simple individual picks with one click." The attached GIF shows how selections can be made using Clip's active select tool, while using the 'Selection Chip', also changing the selection mode from 'Create a new selection' to 'Add to the current selection', as well as using the context menu commands in the selection tree called 'Move to Target' or 'Move to Source', which are helpful when you want to move a selected feature to either source or target. There are other useful command on the context menu like 'Only Select This' and 'Unselect'. Hopefully this info helps.

Changing template properties in bulk is available within the Manage Templates pane where you can select multiple templates by.. Hold CTRL+click on the specific templates you want To select a specific group or templates: Click on one then while holding SHIFT click on the last one in a group Or use CTRL+A to select all of the templates in the list Now click on 'Properties' and the 'Multiple Templates' properties dialog opens where you can change defaults for all of the selected templates at once.

@DavidGray2 We looked at the scenario you described and Clip is able to cut a hole in the polygon. Perhaps you can delete the overlapping "island" polygon to verify there is a hole there. Another option is to select the polygon using Edit Vertices to check if it's now multipart. The second part would be the hole. An alternative workflow would be to uncheck "Clip all editable features" at the bottom of the pane, then you get 2 tabs: input and target. In the input tab, select the island feature. In the target tab, select the water feature. Then click Clip. Either way should give you the same result - as long as the Water layer is editable of course, which you can check in List By Editing: -Scott

My best guess: there are other features that participate in the geodatabase topology that are not in the map (assuming you are using one and not just a map topology)

Closing this until we get further clarification. As it's written, this is already offered.

@CarsonG A while back, I saw a user provided snippet that seemed to do the trick (answer provided by @RémiBaranoff1) https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-questions/splitting-of-polygons-in-arcgis-pro-2-3-changes-my/m-p/500711/highlight/true#M21962

Just a guess here. Try running the Recalculate Feature Class Extent (Data Management) geoprocessing tool, but you will need a Standard or Advanced license. If you don't have one, try exporting the feature class to another feature class and see if that helps.

@GIS_Fox One factor we have considered is we are adding polygons adjacent to older existing polygons. Could this somehow cause an error on a versioned system? I wouldn't think so. I haven't seen that happen without either topology or a modify tool being used. I'd suggest to keep an eye on the exact steps for adding the adjacent polygons. If you end up needing assistance with narrowing it down, my suggestion would be to contact Tech Support -Scott

Thanks for the additional info. You asked about the Edit Vertices tool in your original post. Edit Vertices should only move the selected vertices if the Stretch Proportionately option is turned off. If it's on, unselected vertices can move. I wonder if someone is unintentionally moving vertices by leaving this option on: I know you said you don't use a topology, but I'll just include this info as an FYI: If you use a Map Topology or Geodatabase Topology, and Edit Vertices tool is on the Edges tab, you also get this option, which could also move vertices of connected edges: These options are also available in Editing Options:

Are the Pro maps and ArcMap maps using the same coordinate system? How about transformation? Is a topology involved? Do you have an example screenshot of a before and after?

Sure thing @Amanda__Huber We have multiple different maps that we need to change these bulk attributes for each. Does this configuration follow the layer, project, or map? (might be a dumb question) Basic Feature Templates are specific to a layer; however, Group and Preset templates can span multiple layers so it's best to think of them as specific to a given map. To take this functionality a step further, would there be a way to add a select all option at the top compared to having to Shift + Select all? An alternative to Shift is to select one template and then hit CTRL+A to select the rest of them.

Thanks @Amanda__Huber Can you please let us know if changing template properties in bulk will work for you? In Manage Templates, activate the layer in the top of the pane In the bottom of the pane, click on the first template and hold SHIFT key. While holding SHIFT click on the last template. All templates in the layer are selected. Click Properties. You can now update the attributes of multiple templates at once.
