For layers that aren't going to see much querying, I like to combine a bunch of things on a background layer. In my case, I use a vector tile layer and it shows roads, buildings, driveways, addresses, recreation areas, parks, campgrounds, water, dumpsters, etc, along with all the labeling for those items. For most of my users, they don't click on many items for information anyway, so the visual aspect of it works well for them, and it's fast and you can reduce some of the layers you need. The downside is that updating it is a more complex issue, particularly since you can't overwrite the tile layers like you can with feature services.

I've run into this same scenario with Pro. I understand changes to the layer visibility in the map propagating out to any linked layouts. But it really would be a great option if there was a checkbox on the layout itself that says something like "Override map layer visibility" and when you check that, you could change layer visibility independent of the map itself. Then instead of 4 maps and 4 layouts, you could just have 1 map and 4 layouts. All we have right now is just the same old ArcMap setup except in one file instead of 4 files. I was really surprised when I found out Pro didn't have this capability.

Thank you. I guess that's the answer I needed, even if it wasn't what I'd like to hear. Thanks

I am trying to map backup service area for a handful of rescue squads/stations. Each station (facility) cannot be a backup in its own primary area. So I need to solve a service area for each facility, and have each facility respect a barrier that only applies to that certain facility. Is there anyway to do this with Network Analyst? I have the primary areas (the facility-specific barriers) mapped out in a polygon layer. Instead of using barriers, would I be better off using some kind of restriction in the network?

I have had the chance to check it on other machines with Chrome and they seem to work ok, so it must be something about my personal workstation. I'll keep messing around with it.

It's not a custom scheme or anything fancy. Just the regular Google/ArcGIS Online scheme. Now it appears it works in Chrome on my other machines, so it must be something on my end.

I am afraid I can't tell if it is loading via https or not. It's just " orgname.maps.arcgis.com". Putting "https" in front of it doesn't seem to make any difference. I don't get any console errors when I simply try to add a vector tile layer to a new map. Just the "cannot add to map" dialog box. However, I am getting mixed content errors on a story map I recently did, and am having some issues with that as well. Some of those errors are about secure content not loading, even though they are https. Andy K. Wells GIS Coordinator Southside Planning District Commission 200 S. It turns out that while I cannot work with vector tiles in Chrome, they work perfectly in Edge.

I have read the help thoroughly. When I could not add vector basemaps from the vector basemaps group, I thought I was doing something wrong. But now I have started working with my own vector tiles, and I am pretty sure that it should be working. I'll keep looking into it.

Whenever I try to add a vector tile layer to a webmap in ArcGIS Online, it fails with the following message: "The layer, VectorTileLayer, cannot be added to the map." This is the case if I add my own vector tile layers, or if I try to add a vector basemap from the vector basemap group. Is there something I have to do to use these layers in my ArcGIS Online maps?

It would be nice to have an option when you create a new map frame on a layout, where you could override the layer visibility settings that are on the view. That way I could have one view for example that has 2 layers: an aerial photo and a building footprints layer, both turned on. I could create one layout that uses the default layer visibility, and therefore would have both the aerial and the footprints turned on. Then I could create a second layout that would have the default layer visibility overridden, where I would have the aerial photo turned on, but the building footprints turned off. Then I would have two different layouts based on one view. Both layouts would be assured of having the same extents and scale that way.

Is there a way to have multiple layouts in Pro, but only have one view. For example, lets say I want 3 layouts, one that just shows an aerial photo, one that shows buildings and roads, and one that shows roads and floodzones. Is there a way to tell each layout to use a single view, but be able to specify which layers in that view are on and off based on which layout is active? I need to make a bunch of layouts and they all need to have the same basic view and the same extents. The only difference between each of the layouts is that they show a different layer. It would be nice to be able to create one map view to work with all the layouts, instead of having a different map view for each layout.

I really, really hope fillet, trim, extend, and constraining to a sketch will make it in 1.1, and I hope that's soon. I like Pro, and I want to use it. But if I can't do the most basic of data editing, then its not very useful. Thanks.

Where are the fillet, trim, and extend tools in ArcGIS Pro? I'm editing lines and I need to fillet, trim, and extend them as I'm drawing. Where are these tools? This would be the Pro equivalent of the Fillet Tool, Extend Tool, and Trim Tool found on the Advanced Editing toolbar in ArcGIS Desktop. These are fairly basic tools, so I figure I must be missing something, but I can find no mention of them in the Pro Help.

In ArcGIS Pro (build 1691) I can't seem to constrain a segment by using the previous segment of my sketch. I start my line feature, click the start point, then the next point. The line is still dashed, as its still a sketch, and has not been finished. Let's say I want the next part of the line to be parallel (in line with) the previous. So I right click on the previous segment of the sketch, and choose parallel (or anything else), but it does not recognize the sketched part of the line, and therefore does not constrain my next segment parallel. Having snap to sketch turned on doesn't help. The only way to get it to work is to finish the line before starting the parallel portion of the line, then I can right click on the previously finished line and it works as it should. However, now I have two distinct lines that need to be merged. You could do this on Desktop by using the Feature Construction Toolbar and choosing parallel on it. As irritating as that toolbar was, now I kind of miss it. Thanks for any advice you may have.
