Hi Stephen - The maps shown in Collector are those that you author and those shared with a group of which you are a member. You'll need to share the maps and features with a group, and have the people using them in that group. You can do the following: Open the map that you uploaded the shapefile into. From the "More Options" (ellipsis) menu for the layer based on the shapefile, click "Save Layer" to create a layer item for the shapefile. Your layer will have a feature collection as the source, since that is what the data stored right in the map is. From the "More Options" (ellipsis) menu for the layer based on the shapefile (the same place you used to save the layer), click "Show Item Details". On the item page, click "Publish" to create a hosted feature layer of the data. In the settings of the newly published hosted feature layer, you can enable editing.  Add this hosted feature layer to a map, and that is the map you can use in Collector. If you take your shapefile and add it as a layer to your map (following steps like this) then your layer is part of the map, and isn't editable in ArcGIS Online (and so isn't editable in Collector). Instead, what you'll need to do is publish your shapefile as a hosted feature layer. ... View more

I'd try something with more contrast to your basemap. I think often when people are reporting this, it is on the imagery basemap where it is harder to get contrasting (or consistently contrasting) symbology. ... View more

Perfect, thanks! I'll add these to our examples of where people are having trouble seeing reference data while editing. As to what you can do now, unfortunately, your options are to change the symbology in your map, or wait until this is changed in the app as there is no setting for this.
