Make sure to familiarize yourself with the design consideration for a Network Information Management System: Reference Architecture for a Utility's Network Information Management System | ArcGIS Architecture Center. If this service is used by the majority of your editors, you should increase the minimum number of instances. Otherwise users will experience long wait times every time a new instance is started.

@TamikoStone1 if you're seeing an issue with the trace network on 3.3.5, please log an issue. That fix was explicitly for the utility network, and while there is some common functionality between the two, this issue may be separate.

If you publish the feature service 'simply' (as you said, accept all classes and publish as-is), then the features should appear correctly in the feature service. When creating your web map, you add the feature service to ArcGIS Pro and apply your symbology, field properties, etc, then share the Web Map. If it's still not appearing correctly, log a case with support. I have noticed that sometimes when this happens, the issue can correct itself if you open the published web map in the Map Viewer then save it using ArcGIS Enterprise.

The page you linked does all out compatibility for 11.5 in all three sections of the help topic (the UN version one is a bit tricker because 11.5 falls into 11.3 or later). Support for subtype group layers improves with each release, but most customers have been able to work around the limitations of subtype group layers and exb by publishing a web map using regular feature layers that either don't split out their layers, split out their data into a handful of layers, or in the case of 11.5 you can use scale-based display filters to control the visibility of features based on scale without SGL.

@Joshua-Young both approaches move your data into the new framework (a utility network dataset). The difference between the approaches is that the UN Foundations make you adopt a new data model but provide you with a model with advanced capabilities (subnetworks, terminals, etc) already configured. The Migration Wizard lets you retain your existing schema (fields and domains) but requires you to do any additional configuration for the advanced capabilities (which can be implemented over time).

It is stored in a separate table. If you are integrating the data in that table with a bulk load from CIS nightly than you will want to leave it un-versioned and relate it to the device using your map). If the table is updated more selectively (with precise adds/delete/updates instead of a truncate/load) then you could consider versioning the table and creating a geodatabase relationship. Regardless of the approach you use, you should consider using an Arcade expression to present the related info in a popup.

Most of those asset groups and asset types exist in the expanded model. This means you can use the Create/Apply Network Copy workbook tools to import them into your asset package. You can read an article about how to use them here: Solution tools to help with data modeling and data migration. I'm not aware of anyone creating structure boundary for underground/surface structures with smaller footprints (pull boxes, pedestals, junction boxes). You could add these as additional asset types to cabinet/vault boundaries (relatively easy to implement). If you wanted to create new asset groups, you would need to be careful to set up all the domains on the new subtype, in addition to all the steps required to create a new asset group. There's an overview that guides you through this process in the Configure a utility network topic in the ArcGIS Online Help. You would make the data model changes on the asset package schema (make a backup first), then put the corresponding configuration in the various B_ tables in the asset package.

I recommend sticking with the OOTB model and conducting a pilot before modifying the asset package. As soon as you start adding asset groups/types to the model, you will need to add all the schema and network configuration to make them work properly. All the asset groups and asset types I mentioned above should already exist in the asset package; they may just be named in a way you rename at some point.

Having a feature that is both contained and attached to something provides ambiguity about what the "parent" of that feature is. The association role of an asset type can be Structure OR Container, not both. In the situation you have outlined I would expect the compact equipment to be a container that contains all the assets, this has the effect of creating a hierarchy of equipment where the devices are in the compact equipment (which I think of as an assembly), and the compact equipment participates in the substation hierarchy. How the customer thinks about this equipment, and how/whether they model these components in an asset management system will determine which approach to take.

@MichaelVolz If you want something a novice can do, copy/paste is going to be the right approach, since it ensure the class and all its rules will be editable. If you just copy the class, without the objects referenced by the attribute rules, the rules will fail to import and you will need to manually remove/adjust the rules before importing them. If you are letting users edit this data and plan to import it back into your database, you will need to make sure that removing those attribute rules isn't going to cause any data integrity issues.

This exact workflow (snapping UN features to GPS points) is covered in one of our online tutorials that was first written in 3.3, then updated to 3.5: Get started with ArcGIS Utility Network for water | Documentation. If you follow the steps in that tutorial, does it work?
