Have you asked tech support or your local Esri distributor? They may have some suggestions on which font and browser will work better in your dashboards.

Wow, I totally agree with these thoughts. Pernicious is so true - the test I suggested may not give you a full picture of how well coordinate resolution is being preserved or modified, with a coordinate resolution on the from side being different from coordinate resolution (maybe different units!) on the to side. Data formats (shapefile, geodatabase, CADfile) of the feature classes also come into play. I agree with and_viceversa and the article that best practice would most likely be to project to the new coordinate system with the from data and then copy and paste. Great discussion, thanks for this thread!

@ChrissyRothgeb many comments up thread that it works, but if Esri doesn't support it, I wouldn't not expect high performance (expected anyway, as this is emulation), and no guarantee Esri can help you if you run into OS related problems. Retired or non supported doesn't mean it won't work - I still can run ArcInfo (9.3 - 2008 release) on my Win 10 laptop! ArcInfo Workstation Guidance

You didn't say ArcMap or Pro. I haven't tried it, but if the datums are the same and it is supported (that is if it works at all) than there is no reason that would be a problem. If the datums are different I'm not sure the geotransformation would be fully supported, though it may be if the map you are editing is in in the coordinate system of the destination (paste-to) feature class. This is the kind of thing that I would test before I started doing it in a production environment, even if the excellent @MelitaKennedy told me it was supported I'd test make sure it was working with my particular environment (software, version). (Trust, but verify!) The way I would test it would be (you can try this with two coordinate systems in the same datum too). 1) create a point feature class in GCS NAD27 at an arbitrary location, say, -100, 40, and use the Add XY Coordinates tool so I could see the XY of the point. 2) Use the Project tool to create a new feature class in GCS NAD83. Be sure and use an appropriate transformation (say, NADCON). 3) Set the map to GCS NAD83. Go into the Map (ArcMap Data Frame) properties and make sure the same geo transformation is set up. 4) Get editing, and copy and paste the GCS NAD27 point into the GCS NAD83 feature class. Save your edits. 5) Run ADD XY Coordinates again 6) Compare the two Good luck! Report back to the thread what you find out!

I am sure this will be addressed by Jack's EsriUC Q&A this year as this is a hot topic. Looking for the document coming out in early July. Also, I recommend attending the EsriUC in person or (free) online and there will be opportunities to connect directly with the product leads!

If this is happening consistently, please log a ticket with Esri Tech Support. Reports like this is the only way bugs like this get fixed! I also suggest trying it with another browser to see if this is a browser-specific problem.

A year has gone by. Is there an update on M1 support plans? I'm all good for a while because I can run Pro and ArcMap adequately on my 2013 black can (lots of RAM, multithreaded 8 CPUs. Though for real processing (and any 3D) I do use a Windows box. Shutting down ArcMap will be a challenge for Esri - ArcMap is a great app and works so well for existing workflows for many users, so IMHO the main thing that will kill ArcMap is nothing Esri is doing: Python 2.7 security concerns.

How are you connecting to Access? If you just are double clicking and opening the .mdb file from the catalog this won't work with queries. To access a query you must set up an ODBC connection. This is the safest way to connect, because directly opening the mdb file from ArcMap/ArcCatalog can add geodatabase cruft to your MS Access database. You can use tables from a Microsoft Access database in ArcMap through an OLE DB connection. OLE DB is a standard for sharing data between applications, enabling you to view the Access database in ArcMap. To maintain data integrity, you should only modify an Access database in Access. All Microsoft Access databases (.mdb) are shown and you can browse to them using ArcCatalog or the Catalog window. You should only browse to and add data directly from personal geodatabases (a type of Microsoft Access database), and use OLE DB connections to nongeodatabase Microsoft Access databases. If you have a paid license and do not know how to get set up, you should contact Esri support, not the Esri community, we're just a user community here and can't help you get licensed. Here's the link to get help http://support.esri.com Good luck!

I don't think a fishnet (lots of polygons!) is necessary, aggregate will place where you want if you set the raster processing cell size to 1km set the factor to 40, and set the extent x1 y1 x2 y2 explicitly where you want the lower left corner to go.

Either the Summary Statistics or Frequency tool would be easier and faster than doing this with a search cursor. Have you tried that?

Working with rasters would dramatically faster. Just considering the point 1km dataset, well, I'm surprised you managed to create a polygon dataset that large in a reasonable time frame. Raster overlay is very fast because you all overlays are using simple row-column locations - MUCH faster than the spatial search required for each point spatial join. Your 1km points run against a 40 km raster with Extract Value to Points would be dramatcially faster than a spatial join. You could create a 40 km window (averaged?) using the Aggregate tool. A piece of advice - work on a subset of a small part of the world and verify your workflow is doing what you want - this will save a lot of time. You are correct that coordinate system is very important to get valid results with regional or global datasets.
