You can create a web application that can access your schematic diagrams and in that web application you can create, edit etc... That web app can run on your tablet. An example javascript app is available on the resource center at: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=ced927d4aa444e0a92523be3003e36ad

This is a very old thread. There isn't a direct integration. However, if you have access to an api or ability to directly query SCADA, you can certainly configure the product to pull values (switch position etc...) from another system. For information about creating schematic attributes in general you can get that info here: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/Creating_attributes_on_a_schematic_feature_class/004z000000r2000000/ You would want to pay attention to Query Attribute or Function Attribute

Not a lot to work with here. I would suggest making sure your initial configuration is good. Try these items: Quick start for utilities: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/communities/schematics/01n60000001t000000.htm Video called 'Configuring the Standard Builder' available here: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/communities/schematics/01n600000012000000.htm

Hard to say without seeing it. The parameters (properties) of the partially overlapping links layout algorithm are based on the map units. So make sure that the values used for the offset make sense. For example, if the map is in inches, then an offset of 2 won't be visible. If you could generate that diagram into a schematic dataset in a personal or file geodatabase and share it with me, I can take a quick look. You have probably already looked at the help info for the layout algorithm, but just in case you haven't, here is the link: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/Geo_Partial_Overlapping_Links_layout_algorithm_properties/004z0000003r000000/ Looking back at the thread, I don't see that you ever said what version of software you are running. That would be very helpful as well since things do and have changed along the way.

We are contemplating doing more industry specific layouts for future releases. So if you can share what your 'circuit diagrams' look like, that would be helpful for our own on-going analysis.

Hi Jerrod, It varies a lot between customers, so it is hard to say what works for you. The software provides 'generic' layout algorithms that aren't specific to any 1 industry. If you have a specific layout that has a pattern that can be followed every time, then a developer could build a layout for you that would show up in the list of algorithms. Our professional services folks do that type of stuff for various customers in various industries to meet their needs. Other than that you just have to play with various combinations. The good news is that once it is done, it is done. We retain that position information. So just like if you did this in CAD, you have to lay it out 1 time. On our side though, now you get all the update capability and direct GIS integration. Rick

Take a look at the available attributes for schematic feature classes. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//004z000000r2000000

The error is very clear to me. To create the first schematic dataset that has ever been in an enterprise geodatabase, you must be connected as the SDE user. The reason for this is that some core system tables are created that must be owned by SDE. After this initial creation, you can delete that dataset if you want (the system tables remain) and then log on as any user that has create table permissions and create a new schematic dataset.

This is just using best placement ordering. The algorithm isn't specific to any industry, so it doesn't take into account any ordering attribute.

I am not sure if you have come across it yet or not, but the resources page for Schematics has a lot of training type of content. That main page is available here. Once on that page, there is a series of training videos for various needs and functionality. The main video page is here. The internals of things is probably the trickiest as far as configuration goes, but there is a tutorial and videos showing an example of how it can be done.

Spatial index can be tricky with schematics. The schematic feature classes start by using the same spatial index as the source geographic feature classes. That index, or grid size, is based on the longest linear feature. Now in schematics, if the configuration reduces some nodes, creates a super span, you have edges that are much longer than what the gis feature class holds and then you can run into this error. To fix it, you need to expose the schematic feature classes (right-click the schematic dataset and choose the Show/Hide Schematic Classes option), then go to the linear schematic classes and using the properties page delete the spatial index. This will cause the system to rebuild it and you should be good at that point.

Although I haven't tried this specific case, it looks like you are setting the root at the wrong level and with an incorrect value. You need to set it at the feature/element level and it is either (null, emptry or 0), or a -1. -1 means it is a Root. See this entry for more info
