This is a simple question that may have an easy answer that is eluding me.... but I would like to grant others the ability to make updates and save my Web Map (ArcGIS Portal 10.5.1 though I'd be curious on AGO also), as opposed to allowing them the right ot "Save As" to a new map? Can we do this? Thanks!! Portal for ArcGIS #Portal

I would like to use the Attribute Table widget to display a table (in this case of garage sale locations) but rather than sort by FID, I want them sorted by Street Name. I can do this myself when viewing the application, but woudl like to set a default sort option for users when the open the app to have the table sorted by STREET NAME not the default (which appears to be FID). Any way to do this?

Thanks Jeff and Alison! I will check this out! I have worked with the REST API and Python but have to look for examples. This will save us a lot of time!!!

Hello! I have some questions about possibly automating some minor but still sometimes annoying tasks building ArcGIS Online maps that are being used on web browsers and in Collector. 1. Disabling Editing. Often we have many many layers but just one or two that should be editable (with the rest being for reference only). So we right click and select "Disable Editing" for most layers. 2. Renaming Layers. By default layers come in as "Feature Service - Layer Name". The end user is usually only interested in "Layer Name". So we'll right click each layer click "Rename" and remove "Feature Service -" I was trying to find samples.... Could we use python to automate these two tasks? Some of our maps have almost 100 layers in them! Thanks!

Hello! I have a bit of a dilemma with a project that has some what appear to be mutually exclusive requirements. We have an SDE (10.3) Feature Dataset with features that are collected, and verified in the field. (say, wetland boundaries) * Though the original data is collected on a Trimble, we would like a field review team to be able to see the polygons on Collector, and have the review team update attributes using Collector. THIS SEEMS TO REQUIRE EITHER ARCHIVING OR REGISTERING AS VERSIONED NOT TO BASE * We have a 3rd part .NET Web Application that also makes edits to the base SDE Table in SQL Server. To make this process easier, it is ideal to NOT have Archiving, or either no Versioning, or choosing the "Base" option. These two things are opposed. Any ideas? Does anyone have a workflow to reliably update a/d tables instead of the base SQL table when you are dealing with a versioned database? Or a way to edit data in collector without having to register not to base or archive? (Could this be done if we don't enable collector for Sync - i'e' maps can't be downloaded). Any other thoughts I might be missing? Thanks!!!!

Hello! When creating Helipad OIS the only option seems to be the FAA Part 77. Is there a way to import or even define surface shapes for alternatives guidelines for heliports, such as the US DOD UFC 3-260-1 for example? The latter has clear zones (clearways), whereas the Aviation tool doesn't seem to allow for clear zones with the FAA 77 guidelines. Thanks!

Hello! I would like to restrict some users, using an ArcGIS Online web map, to only edit attributes, not feature geometry. My feature service is from our own ArcGIS Server enterprise, not hosted on AGOL. I see where this can be done with hosted services, but how can I do this when the source is SDE?

Thanks for this info Owen! That makes sense.... This is the workflow I am talking about.. We have field environmental scientists that go out and visit multiple sites of concern in a day. They record information about each site as well as photo documentation, using Collector. It would be awesome if Story Maps could be used then as an easy way for they, or their manager, to review the results periodically, without much manual modification of the Storymap from the GIS team. I have not looked into it in depth yet but it seems like Sam's modification would really help us with this work flow. I do understand right now that the Story Maps are more static and maybe in many cases meant to tell a more static story rather than be part of a dynamic workflow.like above (We do also have a use for the latter case and so far they are working out great) We really appreciate your help!

Thanks Owen! Sam's customized version looks great!!! We've worked with Sam before and he is always very helpful. I assume the 'limitation', other than Sam's customized code, is true for the other flavors of Storymaps beyond the "Tour" template? Looking forward to the updated version. We've played with story maps and they are great! But a workflow where there is less manual manipulation, and an easier way to story tell 'dynamic' data, will be great!!

I am looking into the different story map types. I see several of interest, including the "Tour". I would like to have a storymap that takes field biologists through a review of sites they have visited. I see how you can manually upload geotagged images, reference to albums on Picasa, Facebook, etc. I already have a Point feature class in ArcSDE (SQL) that has attached images through a relationship class (created by ArcGIS Collector) Can I use this as my source to create a Storymap Tour? If so how dynamic is it when more content is added to the feature class? Thanks!

Thanks, Charlie! I might never have originally explained! I am involved in environmental constraints studies in various areas around the US. Sometimes they have a short turnaround. A lot of needed layers are in your Landscape layers. A lot of the upfront time is spent just gatherign data from the involved municpalities. I am testing out a script where I can pass in a polygon and data for that polygon is retrieved from your REST service using the script mentioned above (based on your original but really pared down cause what I would need is not as detailed) Hope that helps!

We are having the same issue. No errors show up in the server log. It partially downloads and then "File opened is not a database file" Has this been resolved? From above it sounds like maybe there is a method to manually upload a Runtime geodatabase for use, the reverse of the progress of grabbing an offline database off of an iPad using iTunes. Is this documented anywhere?

Well just for fun, I tried out the URL in Fiddler Composer to see what happens here. Oddly, in this case I reproduced the same behavior as we saw in the browser. Could there be a difference in our organizational accounts? I could PM mine to you if you wanted to try it... Or, I am skipping some very simple step? (screen shots with and without f=json argument) Thanks again!!!
