Workarounds are fine when a problem comes up and you have a deadline. But once we (the GIS community) identify a problem and notify ESRI about the issue it needs to be addressed in a timely manner. (this topic has now been up for 6-years) I guess we should thank ESRI for having such a buggy product. If it "just worked" monkeys (or AI) could do it. Many years ago, ESRI removed a tool from a new version of ArcMap and replaced it with another one (I think it was the interactive clip tool). The new tool didn't work the same way as the old one and it put a dent in my workflow. When I contacted support and demonstrated the issue, the ESRI employee showed me how to cover the line feature I was trying to clip with a white graphic polygon to cover the area I wanted to remove. It was shocking that the solution was to "cover it up" with a graphic. And it only worked if there was a white background. It turned out that the tool wasn't removed entirely, and you could go into the Advanced Setting GUI and turn it back on, but that wasn't well documented and only told to people when they threw a fit. I guess my point is that ESRI isn't that focused on customer service.

@MarcelSt-Germain I understand. I am working with support to try and find the data shared last year with the support analyst, so we can get to the bottom of why this particular map/layout causes this problem. In the meantime I can talk with the team responsible for this UI to see if there's any other workaround we can provide - I agree it's infuriating when the stop/cancel button is not honored!

This is not necessarily a proper solution (so do not mark as such) but I created a color scheme in which every color is transparent and saved it. It's still annoying but you can reuse whenever you need that comparison quickly.

Hey Arun, I seem to have the same problem you faced. Please could you share the systems specs you upgraded to?

I would encourage everyone asking for this functionality to review the discussion here https://community.esri.com/t5/3d-mapping-questions/scene-exporting-to-image-instead-of-vectors-in-svg/td-p/1229801 If you are experiencing a situation in which the scene _does not draw at all_ in the exported SVG - that sounds like a bug and should be reported (and the repro case shared) to Esri Support.

Hi Grace, My colleague @SarahBell sent me a great example of the workflow involved in taking a drawing in sketchup and importing it into Illustrator for restyling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDCdl7yW_iM This illustrates what I was saying earlier - the drawing is no longer 3d, it's converted into its 2d form. It also illustrates the volume of work involved after the fact to achieve even small changes in symbology - exporting the drawing multiple times to remove "blocking' features such as the glass, or features that overlap with others such as trees. While we could consider ways to achieve this workflow in ArcGIS Pro/Maps for Creative Cloud, Pro scenes (unlike sketchup) contain many layer types which are not strictly vector that would greatly complicate even the manual version of the workflow from sketchup. We will also take this as input in terms of future 3d symbolization requirements. Thanks for bringing your workflows to our attention - we will definitely continue to take these requests into account for future versions of ArcGIS Pro and Maps for Creative Cloud.

Hi Amanda, This occurs because the transparency for that layer is applied to the target appearance of the groups within that layer rather than the layer itself. A new implementation is in the works, so stay tuned, but the workaround for now is as follows: 1) identify the transparency for those groups in Illustrator. Do this by clicking on the target icon for one of those groups and check its transparency appearance in Illustrator. (e.g. let's say it is 11%) 2) Now select all the artwork in the layer you want to work on, and ungroup the artwork. (SHIFT + CTRL + G in windows). Note that this will remove the transparency. 3) Now click the target appearance icon for the layer that contains the paths you just ungrouped. 4) Apply the transparency to this layer's target appearance. (e.g. 11%). This will give you the desired transparency for that layer. You will have to do these steps for any polygon layer that has transparency in the VT layers. Hope this helps!

This is most certainly the case, which is a very weird implementation to me but I digress. Ended up calling ESRI support before seeing this and hadn't realized this was the main issue I was having- Thank you very much for pointing this out

Hi @JeremyWright and @WendyHarrison . I have a I have a giant map (40"x60") with a bunch of layers and a bunch of labels. In earlier versions of the map, I could get them to draw in like a day. But I made some changes and now I can't get them to finish redrawing ever. Is there a best practices guide that could help me? Seems like Wendy's initial reply above gets at some of what I assume would be in a labelling best practices list, but figured I'd ask if such a think exists. Thanks!

@anonymous User Thank you for posting the Helpful Settings. I was attempting to export a single large layout that included satellite imagery for a colleague, but my own option selection was resulting in ...oddities (blurriness and ever-expanding file sizes). The settings you provided resulted in the smallest file size I'd seen all day, without any 'value-added blurriness.' Slainte mhath! 🦆

We can try Set the map frame background to white by unchecking the 'Use map background color' option for the 'Map Frame' section and setting the background fill color to white under the 'Display' tab.
