Our recommendation is always to use the output PDF at resolution/zoom level that's appropriate for the output resolution.  To illustrate what I mean: export same map at 120dpi to PNG.  You'll find that neither text nor halo have any amount of clarity at that resolution when diminuitively sized.  That inaccuracy carries over into the PDF - but PDF lets you zoom in to the tiny text and still make it readable. The core mechanism that creates the mismatch is that the text and the halo can potentially have different positioning coordinates at a very low resolution, due to grid-fitting to the requested DPI.  Using a higher DPI will of course minimize the potential for mismatch. ... Marco, Your conclusion is quite correct - this is most likely just due to the inaccuracy in the _positioning_ of the text and halo when outputting at a very low resolution.  I've been able to repro here with 5.5 pt text as well.  I'll send it to our dev to see if there's anything we can really do to line up the text and halo more accurately. Paul, Be aware that David Barnes has retired from Esri as of last week, so you may not get a response on that tag  . Alastair, Your minimize and maximize buttons are not like any I've seen.    Do you have some kind of UI customization applied to Windows?  The reason I ask is because the dialog used for Export inherits much of its implementation from a standard OS dialog.  Can you share your reproduction case (the project which causes this UI issue) with Esri support?  Share -> Project will create a ppkx file, which should be pretty self contained. ... Alastair, you should have a button for "options" on that dialog.  It appears it is sized strangely, so this leads me to believe there is some issue due to DPI scaling on this dialog.  What resolution, what dpi scaling, and what OS are you running? ... View more
