Bjorn, Thanks for the reply. When we use feature layer which does not use FeatureCollection, all works well (we tested successfully the layer you included in your reply). Applyedits updates the server. There is nothing special about the shapefiles we have used in our service, as far as we can see. It seems by default they are set as feature layers with featurecollections when published. From the flash builder image we attached you'll see these shapefile operations layers have no url. This may be a more fundamental question, something we are missing. But how do we use FeatureLayerTask against a feature layer with a featurecollection. The Flex api for FeatureLayerTask shows the following: FeatureLayerTask(url:String = null) Creates a new FeatureLayerTask object. The webmap we are testing against is as follows: http://webmapsolutions.maps.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=c6b1e033e47248818b73757d03b58d36 Thanks again for your help --Rory

Mike, Thanks for the reply. We are a partner, and thus have a subscription account. The question is with shapefiles published to ArcGIS Online, so a hosted Feature Service. When actually logged into ArcGIS Online (via arcgis.com) we can edit and save with no problem. How do we do the same through our mobile app. Applyedits sends nothing to the server, it simply updates the local (on mobile device) copy of the data. We want to actually update the ArcGIS Online source. Thx --Rory

We are building a mobile app which accesses ArcGIS Online. The attached image shows what we are loading from ArcGIS online in the mobile app (from flash builder). We have published in this webmap in arcgis online 2 shapefiles (operational layers 0 and 1). We are having no problem updating the features in each of these layers locally (though applyEdits updates the graphicslayer only for each layer which is a bit wonky) on a tablet. So all edits show up just fine on the device (stored in memory). We would like now update the server with these changes. We cannot see how to update the featurecollections for these two operational layers (0 and 1) on the server. We know it can be done since we can do it when logged into arcgis.com. Any insight would be very welcome Thanks --Rory

GeoMobile for ArcGIS was published before the release of ArcGIS Online. There is an additional mobile app now available called GeoMobile for ArcGIS Online (http://www.webmapsolutions.com/arcgisonline). This is a mobile framework which allows the easy addition of widgets to the viewer, similar to the Flex viewer for ArcGIS.

Since FeatureLayers resemble WFS, in that the client renders the layer. It should be possible (in theory) to serialize the FeatureLayer to a file on a mobile device. When offline we could then deserialize the layer and render. We are challenged to serialize/deserialize a FeatureLayer. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks --Rory webmapsolutions.com

A few months ago I downloaded Mansours excellent sample offline Flex viewer: http://thunderheadxpler.blogspot.com/2012/03/offline-tpk-viewer-in-flex-mobile.html It ran like a charm from Flex Builder to my Android phone. I tried it again yesterday, and the tpk now does not render on the phone. I'm using Flash Builder 4.6, can see the tpk is being copied to the phone, but now no tpk rendering. Very odd. Wondering if anybody else has found the same? Thx --Rory

We are accessing webmaps in mobile Flex. We'd like to edit our published shapefiles in our mobile Flex app, since they are in arcGIS online converted to feature layers. Does anybody know if this is possible?

We've been investigating a cross platform ArcGIS mobile solution. From this work we have released GeoMobile for ArcGIS. This is a free mobile application which allows users to add their own ArcGIS layers to a map viewer. The app also includes a number of ArcGIS tools. We think the work has considerable potential in the transportation sector. At the moment we are very interested in feedback; areas people might see a use for a flexible custom viewer of this type. We have launched the application in an effort to stimulate conversation. We have a write up and video of the application in action, plus our work on offline mobile ArcGIS here: http://www.webmapsolutions.com/mobile-arcgis-online-offline-access --Rory

I am trying to execute a find or query on a layer and filter it by extent. So, for example, return only those buildings in the current extent which have an id containing 123?? Thanks --Jim

We are hoping to get some feedback from the ArcGIS community on the new version of our free mobile ArcGIS Viewer. Its based on the ESRI ArcGIS viewer for Flex and written in Adobe Air, so a cross mobile platform solution. You can get the app in the Apple and Android app stores: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/arcgis-viewer/id459112762?ls=1&mt=8 https://market.android.com/details?id=air.SwizTest3&feature=search_result Included in this release is: 1. Application now reads a config file, hosted on any Web server, allowing users to add their own layers. 2. Routing Widget added. 3. Query Widget added. 4. Minimize button added to all widgets. 5. Viewer can now load Feature Layers. 6. Fix for Geocoder Widget. 7. Fixes for Measure Widget. 8. Fixes for Layer Widget We pulled shapefile support since it affected the viewers performance. This we will investigate for the next release. Let us know your thoughts at rory@webmapsolutions.com. Our goal is to improve the viewer for users. Many thanks --Rory

We have just released a free Mobile ArcGIS viewer to the Apple, Android, and BlackBerry app stores. We'd welcome any feedback you might have. The app is written in Adobe AIR based on the ESRI Flex Viewer. Future direction is undecided; whether to continue to add free widgets or charge a fee for extended functionality. Your thoughts on the app, and what you'd like added would be of great interest. Blog discussion on app: http://www.webmapsolutions.com/arcgi...berry-playbook The app store links: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/arcgi...2762?ls=1&mt=8 https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result https://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/48458 Thanks --Rory

I am loading a Query Widget in the Flex Viewer. Flash Builder gives the following warning on load: warning: The class widgets.Query.QueryResult has been used in a call to net.registerClassAlias() in _QueryWidget_FlexInit. This will cause widgets.Query:QueryWidget to be leaked. To resolve the leak, define widgets.Query.QueryResult in the top-level application. It relates to the following line in QueryResult.as: [Bindable][RemoteClass (alias="widgets.Query.QueryResult")] Wondered if anybody had a fix? Thanks --Rory

Wanted to ask for more guidance on the KMLLayer. We are using the 2.4 api. Have started using the KMLLayer. The resource Bjorn mentioned in another post to view KML and WMS layers is excellent: http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html Styling of KML and the info window are areas we have interest. Using the following kml: http://anewcombe.com/test.kml We found selecting a point in our viewer gives the following: http://flexmappers.com/img/questions/kml1.png But in the arcgis viewer we see this: http://flexmappers.com/img/questions/kml2.png How do we generate this same output in our viewer? Thanks --Matt

Just to prove the point about running ArcGIS across multiple mobile platforms. The following link shows videos of the same AIR app running on the IPad, Android and BlackBerry PlayBook. So one code base running on multiple platforms: http://www.webmapsolutions.com/arcgis-ipad-android-blackberry-playbook
