I had a question on 3D Point Cloud data. I've been asked how to get this type of data for an area in the NE US. So far I've only found these guys in Australia:

aero3dpro 3D modelling service

who provide this type of data. Does anybody know of any other sources?

Thanks

Hey Matt,

There are several companies that can produce 3D models leveraging Structure from Motion (Image to point-cloud) technology.

Such models/point-clouds can be created leveraging stereo-pair imagery, multiple angle obliques, or UAV imagery. But obtaining the necessary imagery is the first step. Several imagery companies such as pictometry supply such imagery for places worldwide however you will need to budget for this.

Esri will be releasing a drone to map app this summer that will be able to accomplish similar results from inexpensive UAV's. This will also be showcased as the Esri Federal GIS conference.

Keep in mind that this Structure from Motion technology that Aero3D and Esri's drone to map app has its limitations as you cannot obtain accurate building form where vegetation overlaps the building side or roof. For incresed accuracy Multiple Return LiDAR may be more beneficial.
