If you are using SimpleFillSymbol(), for instance, as CIRCLE, like they do here: ArcGIS API for JavaScript Sandbox e.g. default:
symbol = new SimpleFillSymbol();
break; Then you might be able to set the style in the constructor, like so: SimpleFillSymbol | API Reference | ArcGIS API for JavaScript I'm testing that now to make sure it works... UPDATE: so it looks like you can change the fill color and style - haven't been able to figure out size yet. May have to see how the default symbol is getting set...

Is David for sure having a problem with the legend? It sounds like he isn't certain what's causing the problem - I was hoping to have a look at it live to get a better feel for what's going on.

Do you by chance have this publicly accessible anywhere? I embed several maps on pages and have run into similar issues due to lack of real-estate.

I really enjoyed developing against Silverlight, though I accepted JavaScript/HTML5 long ago now! It seems only yesterday Silverlight was touted as the next best thing. Such is the life of a programmer! Keeps you on your toes...

Ok, cool - so it looks like ILayer is good from what I can see... it just doesn't know what "on" is referring to. Can you share how you're constructing your main map page? Are you doing it in the main require, or in a module? I'm sorry - I haven't used the webapp builder... I'm not sure how it constructs this for you.

I did pull it from Robert's example - it should work. Did you replace "yourFeatureLayer" with the one you're using, and it's defined/in scope? You should pull it right from "evt", the graphics, that is - I see you're defining graphics to itself above, however - I would need to see more code to see what you're doing here.

Does it work if you try it like this? yourFeatureLayer.on("update-end", function (evt) {
console.info(evt);
dom.byId("featcount").innerHTML = " " + evt.target.graphics.length;
}); Make sure you're keying off of your feature layer. If it's still not working, I would double-check your feature layer is in scope, and you're using the right layer. If you get inside the event function, you can inspect evt by using dev tools to look at the properties and methods (in case you haven't done this before): Inspect running JavaScript with the Debugger (Windows)

Not sure if this will help, but maybe you should try this service URL: Execute Task (Export Web Map Task) The base URL would be: https://utility.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/rest/services/Utilities/PrintingTools/GPServer/Export%20Web%20Map%20Task/

If I may give a stab at it, are you trying to key off of evt after attaching to the "update-end" event on your feature layer? evt should defined from the event at the end of the layer update - can you post your code?

If it's just a specific service, maybe try and recycle it and see if that helps. I think out-of-the box it does this every 24 hours.

Are you sure the server isn't getting hammered or maybe needs a reboot? I hate to suggest that, but I have had oddities occur where this resolved the issue. Actually, while load testing ArcGIS, I had ArcSOC.exe processes spin-out of control (even after stopping the load test), pegging CPU, and had similar response issues.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Not to go too far off the original topic, legends have always been a little tricky for me since I do a lot of binding to JSON datasets. One of the things I'm doing is similar to: Gas price data by state mashup | ArcGIS API for JavaScript In 3.13, the legend creation is broken - I filed a bug with Esri: BUG-000086150 - Legend fails with JSON data in ArcGIS API for Java.. Rather than creating my own legend, I lightly massaged what the API returned, but this method fails in 3.13 since the legend is having rendering problems. Esri isn't sure when the bug will be fixed, so if I need to upgrade to the latest version before this is fixed, I will need to look into this more closely - that and getting a meaningful legend to show up when using the print/export service!
