Hello Land Records Folks! We have just published a tool that allows you to migrate your ArcMap COGO feature classes into the new ArcGIS Pro COGO Enabled line feature class schema. Those Text fields that contained your COGO information will be converted to the numerical (Double) field type and all the values will be carried over. Where Is This Tool? You can find the tool here: https://bit.ly/2GFEiNl Download the zip and unpack it to find the tool. In the future more tools will be added. We will notify you when this happens so you can re-download the tool box to get all the new changes. How Do I Use This Tool? Once you have the toolbox unpacked from the Zip browse to it in the Catalog Pane in ArcGIS Pro by adding a folder connection to the tools location. You can then right click the toolbox and say Add To Project and this will and the tool box to the Toolboxes group in the Catalog pane for easy access in the future. Finally, to run, double click the tool. You will be presented with 3 options: 1. First you will point to the Line Feature that you want to migrate 2. Then you will provide a name for the new line feature class that will be created by running this tool. 3. Optionally you can then provide a name for an error feature class. This error feature class will have all the line geometries that failed to properly migrate the COGO values. You can use this to update the new COGO feature class created. Field Mapping: If you have a standard ArcMap COGO enabled Line feature class then there won't be any field mapping necessary. But if you have a different field that you are using to represent COGO measurements you can field map them in this area. Additionally if your COGO Direction Field is using North Azimuth you can adjust how that format is handled here. Just change the first drop down from Quadrant Bearing to the North Azimuth. I Have Questions Please feel free to reply to this blog post or comment on the ArcGIS Online Item and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks! Jason Camerano

Yes, it sure is on the Roadmap now 🙂 We will work to get this in for the next release of Pro.

Upon testing this does seem to work. However, the "Enable Undo" toggle is only available on the Full GP pane and not whilst embedded within a Task. The work around for this would be to uncheck the "Embedded" checkbox in the Task Designer for this step of Appending. Unfortunately doing so will now allow you to preset any of the parameters of the Append tool, it will open up the GP pane and allow the user to run the tool. Yet the features can now be added to the edit session and thus selected by Task Actions "Features Created in Task/Step"

Hey Andrew, Unfortunately when GP commands are run the features that are created are not part of the edit session. The edit session is what the "Features Created In This Task" and "Feature Created In This Step" are listening to. There for it doesn't notice that anything was created via GP tools. In terms of workarounds that might work for your situation. Do you have editor tracking turned on any of the feature classes? If so you can query features based on the date created and select them that way (using select by attribute). Then you can run a calc action on the currently selected features. Additionally, writing a script tool (that can be embedded within Tasks) could combine all this logic into one step so the new features can be appended and selected programmatically and then calculated via the task or the script tool. Sorry for the inconvenience, Jason Camerano

Yea, unfortunately the placement of the actual TASK pane is by default docked on the left side and it can be overlapped by other panes. We have made undocking the Task Pane and even the Designer pane a best practice for proper usage of Tasks. I'm not sure of custom configuration of re-skinning the application right now. As per Kory Kramers link to an idea, that is another feature entirely that has been requested that we have thought about. Being able to format the views to a certain layout/docking order.

A way to maintain the measured unit for the breakline is to check the box "Proportion with remaining distance". The standard breakline will take a measured distance along the line which, based on spatial reference, misclose on parcel, might not measure exactly to 25ft if you draw a line. If you check that box and enter in the length of all the line segments you should be able to maintain the proper measurements:

Great question. Currently we are looking into a solution for this problem as the Task Pane takes focus away from the active view causing issues with Copy and Paste. At the moment the only work around is to instruct the user to manually right click + copy and right click + paste.

For a single parcel there should only be one area where Origin Connection lines exist. You can have multiple Origin Connection lines that follow a linear path to the POB, but elsewhere in the parcel there should be no other Origin Connection Lines. All other tie lines should be Connection lines. Here are a couple links that might be helpful to better answer your questions: ArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2) , ArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2)

The best approach to entering a mutli-part parcel with an origin connection is as follows: New Parcel Start with the Origin Connection to the point of beginning (POB) From the POB continue to COGO your parcel When it's time to move to the other portion of the parcel, create a Part Connector line that spans across the road. (This is Category value 7 in the Category field) Finish COGO'ing your other portion of the subdivision. If you have already created the multipart and merged the parcel and want to re-add the Origin Connection: Open the Parcel Create the origin connection line (it will be going the wrong direction for now) For each segment of the Origin Connection, switch the To and From points; For example if the line was FROM 5 TO 13 change it to the following: FROM 13 to 5. Lastly, for each segment (individually, this wont work as a batch), select the row and choose REVERSE BEARING from the context menu. To answer your other questions: Yes, missing the origin connection lines can affect the LSA if it is not included in the adjustment. If you were to select the original historic parcel then you would be fine. You alternative solution can work but you won't get the benefit of having a single parcel for the multipart.

You can set up a domain on the Geodatabase to match your custom types and assign that Domain to the Type field of Lines. From there you can then Symbolize the Lines Fabric sublayer to the Type field and then it will be represented in the map. If you are looking to import this from source data you can add a field to the Fabric prior to the import and name it the exact same name as your "representation" field on your source data and also make sure the new field is the same type as your "representation" field. Once you import the data all your data will be carried across. If you have further questions or if you want more information on how to preform these steps I have listed please let me know. You can also email me: jcamerano@esri.com for a faster response.

Both workflows seem to have the same results so it would be basically up to you which one you want to choose. I was a little thrown off with the word "linestring" because that is a separate tool. I assume you are referring to the Segmented Line Tool correct? Using the Segmented Line Tool will just create 4 proportionally equal segments on the line. If you want a more precise break-point I would recommend using the Breakline tool. Otherwise, the Segmented Line Tool works fine.
