Did you also separately authorize Desktop? You'll need to go into the ArcGIS Administrator and make sure you've authorized ArcGIS Desktop.

Hi Dori, I would encourage you to also contact support about your phantom conflicts. If there is a problem in the software that's causing this, we need to fix it. Or if it is a problem that happens with certain workflows, we need to document how to avoid it. Thanks, Kim

By enterprise geodatabase I mean ArcSDE geodatabase. You'd have to extract the lat/long values and place them in their own separate fields, I believe, to use an xy event layer from an OLEDB connection. OLEDB connections are nonspatial; they won't read the sdo_geometry columns as spatial and render the information in map.

Also note that you do not have to copy data to the server when you publish. See "If the publisher's machine and the server are working with the same database" section of this topic: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/About_registering_your_data_with_the_server/015400000505000000/ In regards to needing two clients...you'll need the DBMS (32 bit) client for ArcGIS Desktop to make a direct connection to the database. Whether you need a DBMS client installed for ArcGIS Server to connect depends on whether or not ArcGIS Server is installed on the same machine as your database. If you have ArcGIS Server on the same server as your Oracle or SQL Server database, the files necessary for ArcGIS Server to connect to the database are already there. If ArcGIS Server is installed on a different machine than the database, then you will need to install the DBMS client software (64 bit) on the ArcGIS Server machine for ArcGIS Server to connect directly to the database.

Hi, If you're using an ArcGIS 10 or 10.1 geodatabase, the subtype definitions are stored in the Definition column of the GDB_ITEMS table.

Any chance you'll be upgrading soon? 😄 At 10.1, you can make a Database Connection to the database, use the data from the database on your map, and publish a map service. At 10, you can connect to your database by creating a query layer in ArcMap, using the data from the database on your map, and publishing a map service. At 9.3.1, connections to databases that don't contain enterprise geodatabases are limited to OLEDB connections. If you have x and y values in the table, you could create an xy event layer to render the data in ArcMap then publish a map service...but you can't access spatial data directly and publish it.

Yes, I believe your assumption is correct. Your system administrator will likely need to configure the firewall to allow these remote desktop connections to the cloud. Please contact him or her.

Coded value domains can only be used on geodatabase data. But, you're right, even after you register the table with the geodatabase, you won't be able to specify List01_ID as the Code Field because, when you register the table with the geodatabase, ArcGIS will see that the integer field is an Identity column and it WILL convert that field to an ObjectID. The field will not qualify for use as a Code Field.

Running Enable Enterprise Geodatabase doesn't affect any of your existing tables. Your existing tables are still database tables and are not registered with the geodatabase. So, in this case, ArcGIS is just recognizing that List01_ID qualifies as an ObjectID field. ArcGIS requires an integer, unique, not null field be present to properly display and query the data. Does List01_ID have the Identity property set to "yes" in SQL Server?

Hi Bob, What is your source table in and what is the definition of the List01_Id field? What method are you using in ArcGIS to import it? To what type of geodatabase are you importing it? What version of ArcGIS are you using? I tried Import > Table (single) and copy/paste from ArcGIS 10.1, with source tables in a SQL Server database that contained a not null, smallint field. My destination geodatabases were an enterprise geodatabase in SQL Server and a file geodatabase. In all cases, a separate ObjectID field was added to the table; it didn't convert my smallint ID field to an ObjectID. But there are many different source and destination types you could have used, so please respond with the specifics of your case. -Kim

Russell, Don't change the collation of your database; case sensitive (CS) database collations are not supported with ArcGIS.
