Thanks Dan. Before I recieved your most recent post, I projected my data in UTM, and 'did the math' within FishNet to accomodate a mile. I quality assured the distance results, and was pleased with their outcome. The only concern was the grid came out with uniform cells from east to west and north to south. They didn't follow the curviture of the projected data, instead were straight. The grid data was also kicked out in UTM, so I'm not sure why this occured. I'll continue to tinker with the projection. Any thoughts?

I'm working on preprocessing two polygon layers by simplifying their attributes to include only the elevations. The two polygons don't follow the same extents, for example, they don't line up exactly. I'd like to compare the two to find out if the elevation increased or decreased, and kick out an output polygon for display. What approach should I take or tool should I use to conduct this analysis? I also have the option of converting the two polygons to raster, and running the analysis as raster based data. Any thoughts on this are also welcomed. Best!

I know there are prefered data formats for geocoding input. For instance, using Ave. versus Av., etc. Is there any documents/templates that outline these input parameters for basic address geocoding????? Also, how would you handle PO boxes?

Hi Dan. I saw FIshnet was available before I posted, but was unsure of its capabilites. So, I tried generating a 1 mile grid, but was unsuccessful. Have you happened to use FishNet before? If so, any idea on creating the grid using miles? It doesn't appear to have the option for units. Thanks Dan...

I"m sorry, I"m using ESRI basic geocoding locator, and the street layer provided by ESRI. I geocoded 125 records, and approximately 40 didn't reference. I'm currently investigating potential reasons why they didn't geocode properly. Fields used were Street/City/State/Zip. I am basically just inquiring about any document that details the 'prefered' data format for geocoding input. Are updated address locators/data available? Thanks again!

Hello: I am beggining a project that requires an index grid. I basically would like to generate three grids (polygon) that cover my project area at 1 mille, 10 miles, and 100 miles. I don't need it to follow any pre-existing boundaries, although its required to cover my project area. Oh, and I"m still using 9.3.1? Thanks in advance. Mark

I have two seperate raster datasets with one value per pixel, and need to calcuate the difference in an output raster. Is there a way to perform this simple calculation using two seperate rasters. Thanks!

Is there an example of an input geocoding table with the format prefered by the geocoding tool? I"ve been searching everywhere, but haven't found a table in the prefered schema. Thanks in advance. Mark

If I already have the linear referenced data for linear features, how do I display their offset symbology in ArcMap? This dataset relies on two fields for uniqueness. Is their a method to distinguish the combinations of two fields in the display? Thanks!

I have a line feature class in which I need to extract measurements based on a pre-existing point feature class. So, for each point on the line, I need to find its measurement along the line. I need to create measurements along the line using the Create Routes tool. My data is in a Lambert projection (feet), although I need for the point measurements along the line to be captured in decimal degrees. Also, I am using stream data, which flows from all directions. I used the Create Routes tool to quality assess the direction 0 to 1234, and noticed many of the streams were calculating distance from the wrong end. Is there a way to automate this process potentially through elevation, or possibly another means? Thanks in advance for your time!

Thanks Donavan: I am interested in utilizing the new fuzzy tolerance tool, although will most likely need a static version as well for further statistical applications. I believe this stage of analysis is a little far out from where I need to initially focus. I'm currently just looking for any basic habitat suitablity models first, and how to determine the weighted values through out all of the parameter datasets (climate, vegetation). Thanks for your quick reply, Mark

Hello: I am in the preliminary stages of investigating habitat suitability models. My approach is to utilize various geospatial data such as soil type, elevation, vegetation, climate, urban areas, infrastructure, etc., and assign weighting variables associated with each targeted habitat species. Using red squirrels for example: What they forage and where they den (vegetation), their elevation range, their prefered climate, etc. This details of this information will be derived from local biologist. My first instinct is to review other projects similar to this, because it seems this work has been done. My question is, does anyone know of existing models, an appropriate place to begin, or helpful resource? Thanks so much for your time!

OK, I was just toying with another approach. Unfortunately, it moves the arc feature as well. I found the best approach to be your first suggestion of using the Near tool. Thanks again...
