Thanks for the overview. So, I may be able to use the personal geodatabase if wanting to edit through Access, although I'll run up against all of the personal gdb limitations. I've used these in the past, but the table was outside of the database, and a model imported to the gdb, following edits. This is apparently something I'd like to avoid. So, I most likely will need to utilize the SDE gdb, and sql studio to edit, and ultimately generate forms. Is it as easy as opening up sql studio, and linking to the table within the sde gdb, or am I missing a step somewhere? All of these interactive gdbs' are linking to jurisdictional or environmental boundaries using a one to many relationship. The many being the table, and the boundary being the one. Do you feel building relationship classes is the best approach? The results will be put on a service, with built in queries and reports, although I've run across many issues with displaying/labeling the results of a query where a 'many' table was used, and a 'one' was the geographic component... Thanks again! All the best!

I am using ArcGIS 10, and would would prefer to use the file geodatabase, but I do have access to generate SDE geodatabases. Does the File GDB have the capability of editing in Access, SQL?

Vangelo- Thank you for your response. In theory, I would create the 'geodatabase' in ArcCatalog, which is the only format I'm aware. I would continue to build the main table required to edit as well within ArcCatalog, which would contain a relationship (one-to-many) to the geographic datasets (Counties, HUC 8, and Panels). The table is associated with the Many relationsihp. Thanks...

Hello All! I wanted to provide program/resource specialists with the flexibility to edit their own tables, although instead of importing the tables in to a GDB, I'd prefer to knock out that step and have them edit directly. I would like to use Access, and in some cases SQL. I would like to open the geodatabase tables in SQL and/or Access, better yet, build some forms to help them out further. Thanks for any help you may provide. Best, Mark

If your queries don't change, and you will re-run the same queries throughout the year, I would simply build one or multiple models that can automate the process.

Is there a method to utilize a weighted functionality using vector data? I have exact polygons that would overlay perfectly, I simply would just like to assign them weights instead of going through the arduous task of converting to raster, reclassifying, and running the weighted overlay tool... Thanks in advance for your thoughts!!!

I'm attempting to create a fairly large raster (Hydrologic Unit Code 8 [HUC8) from a polygon HUC8. Basically I want to illustrate the HUC 12 values within that HUC 8 to run a weighted overlay analysis on three datasets. All of these datasets are the same HUC 8 with multiple HUC 12s within, they just contain different content. For instance, population, stream miles, road miles. When specifying the cell size, I assumed I could simply choose another raster dataset that had the cell size I desired, and Arc would just chose the cell size. I chose a raster dataset with a 3 arc second (90 meters), but this raster's extents were not in the same location as the polygon I wished to convert. Do I need to specify a raster dataset that is already contained in my study area? Is the sotware specifically looking for the raster's corners to mimic or a random cell size? On a similar note, my goal is rather simple. I am overlaying three datasets that align perfectly, and assigning weights. It seems this type of analysis would be a simple calculation using vector data. Is there a method to perform weighted overlay analysis within a vector analysis. Thanks in advance for your time! 🙂

I ran a test run, and although the fields are populated, their units aren't in miles. I must be missing something simple... I am using Arc10, and I have converted to an appropriate equal distance projection. Regards...

So, using the calculate field function in Model Builder. I just need to my emplty field to equal !Shape.Length!? How does it know the calculation is set to miles? Thanks for your time!

Richard, the field calculation for !SHAPE.LENGTH! / 5280 # does not work. It produces a syntax error when ran on an empty field through field calculation. Any thoughts?

Thanks for you quick reply, although am not certain I'm following your logic precisely. And yes, I am using feature classes. When calculating without model builder, I create the two fields to house mileage (total miles and need miles), use calculate geometry to populate the segmets mileage, and then perform frequency analysis to summarize the values of the HUC 12s. Using model builder, should I be using calculate field prior to utilizing frequency, and what calculation would work for empty fields? Thanks again!

Hello: I am attempting to calculate linear mileage of stream data for three predefined fields in model builder. The conceptual approach is to calculate all segments mileage in the first field (total_miles), then calculate a fraction of the records in another field (need_miles), and finally, calculate the percentage of the two in the final field (percentage). I'll use frequency to agregate the segments to their respective HUC 12 areas. The problem I am having, is how to calculate geometry (linear mileage) in model builder? I can't seem to locate the tool that may be dragged to model builder. Thanks so much in advance!!!!
