I tried here and it seems to work fine .. both via UI and python .. strange.. does this happen in each and every snapshot you take ? m. Hey .. sorry for the late reply .. well, you can encode such heuristics in CGA, but that's a bit complicated.. before going on with this, did you find a solution yet ? Cheers! Hi Bruno, I heard from Roman you're talking about screenshots in python.. or is it the same via the UI ? Just to make sure .. Yes, activate 'backface culling' in the viewport render settings (cogwheel menu). Cheers! Matt Matthias Buehler Head of 3D Technologies twitter: @MattB3D ------------------------------- Garsdale Design Limited matthias.buehler@garsdaledesign.co.uk www.garsdaledesign.co.uk

Hi. You need to fix the normals of the faces. Extruding negative reverses the normals. CityEngine by default shows both sides of a polygon. The WebViewer does not to be more efficient. Rather extrude positively, then translate back. Ok ? M. Yeah, when going from SketchUp to Maya via obj and comparing this with the preview in CityEngine, then one sees the same geometry and materials. Means both Maya and CE interpret the obj file the same. Anything different in the SU model would therefore point out that the SU exporter exports wrongly.. I assume there's nothing that really can be done about this but clean up the stuff manually... Sorry.. there is no other solution .. it is not possible to limit navigation within a certain region .. neither in CityEngine nor in CityEngine WebScenes. Cheers ! Hi, this must be a clipping plane issue or something like this. select a few objects and frame them with 'f'. this sets the camera's focal point correctly again. does this work ? Hi .. sorry for the late reply .. I usually use the obj file format and rather rarely dae. Obj just seems more bullet proof in many situations. An other factor there is to bringing meshes over is that it may be better if you have 1 'mesh group' per material and not 1 mesh with n materials assigned to different faces. Cleaning up the geometries in this regard may help getting rid of the issues. For a model like this, it may take many approaches and a couple of hours of cleanup .. Sorry, that's the reality.. Hi, I'm quite busy and cannot spend a huge amount of time debugging stuff.. sorry. It's a bit tricky to bring files from SketchUp to both Maya and CityEngine. In theory, this should be no hassle, but standards like Collada are interpreted differently, thus this can result in issues. CityEngine tries to follow the standards as closely as possible (they're called standards ..). Maybe send a few files to the mail address below. Before diving into Maya, watch a couple of texturing videos and familiarize yourself with the hotbox and the navigation. Ok ? matt Matthias Buehler Head of 3D Technologies twitter: @MattB3D --------------------------------- Garsdale Design Limited matthias.buehler@garsdaledesign.co.uk www.garsdaledesign.co.uk

Hey ! Well, if you like easy software, you may want to have a look at SketchUp. But if the model does not need to be very precise (more lookalike), you may also use CityEngine's shape creation tools. If you go '70% realistic', I think the fastest way may be SketchUp, if you also have to learn the tool. But if in future you do more visualization work and modeling, a more powerful tool may make sense. I personally like Maya, but an other option that has good modeling functionality is 'Modo'. I know many 3D tools, so feel free to ask if you have more questions..
