The GPX tool converts the points from the file into points in a shapefile/featureclass/etc. If you lines, you can use the Points to Lines tool to turn point-tracks into lines. I'm not sure about the point/line difference. Is it possible GE is doing some sort of smoothing? The GPX to Features tool translates points exactly from the coordinates values inside. If you were to open the file in a text editor and copy/paste the point values into the XY tool in ArcMap, they'd show up in the same place.

ArcGIS Server Standard can perform ArcGIS Desktop Basic and Standard level geoprocessing options. You need Server Advanced to use Desktop Advanced level tools.

Here's the two help topics which should get you started. The only part I'm not sure of is the authorization. I'd need to make time to try it, but I think you can use these services with a simple token (that you must obtain). This is a very "simple" generate token function here: https://gist.github.com/khibma/7485243 This help page explains the input parameters to the service for the REST endpoint of the online service: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgis-rest-api/index.html#/Route_service_with_asynchronous_execution/02r300000275000000/ This help topic has 2 sections in it: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/#/Using_a_geoprocessing_service_in_Python_scripts/00570000004w000000/ The first shows how to Import a toolbox from an online source. The second shows how to use the service from its REST end point. Use whatever method makes the most sense to you in regards to using the online service.

These values must be filled in on the Item Description page from within ArcMap or ArcCatalog: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/Documenting_a_tool_in_a_Python_toolbox/00150000003n000000/ We haven't got much push or request to implement a 100% python solution for doc'ing Python Toolboxes. You could post an idea on http://ideas.arcgis.com if you'd like to see this considered.

I realize this was posted a couple weeks ago, but it should be using "jobs" - with an S. I just tried the service, using "jobs" and it properly queried the job. I don't exactly understand how you've got that error. Is it when consumed in the FlexAPI? Like Flex is trying to get the status using JOB, or are you saying if you manually put URLS into your browser, it only works with JOB?

ArcGIS Runtime (GPKs) and Geoprocessing Services are very similar in nature. Neither of them support the notion of "CURRENT" with arcpy.Mapping. The CURRENT keyword, for use inside ArcMap does exactly what it sounds like, leverages the current, open, map document. When something is running as service (runtime/gp services), there is no "current" map document open, available to be acted upon. So, I guess to answer your question, yes this is a limitation. I can't find any help-doc on it, but my personal feeling is more arcpy.mapping is not support, than it is supported. I'm sorry I can't provide you a list of what does and does not work.

Can you make sure the GP Service has INFO level messages (at the service level, not the server logs), and get that error message? It should provide a clue.

Can you post the full error? If you get on the machine, can you run your script using the 64bit version of Python? And then trying the service, it only fails there? If thats the scenario, then something has gone wrong in the published service. If you can't run the script in 64bit Python (like at command line), then the issue could be a configuration problem.

If anyone today can still reproduce this issue, I might have a solution. However, I'm not 100% sure this solution is the silver bullet for everyone, as such I need to confirm a few cases before I post a solution for all to try. If you are experiencing this problem, can you email me: khibma@esri.com with the following information: -ArcGIS Desktop version: 10.1, 10.1sp1, 10.2, or 10.2.1 -Confirm 64bit Background is installed -is ArcGIS Server installed? -is ArcEngine Installed? -Do you use a Single Use or Concurrent license?

Have a look here for a few options: http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/73863/any-tool-to-monitor-arcgis-server-usage/73876#73876 Also note, that this idea, http://ideas.arcgis.com/ideaView?id=087300000008Gzp is currently under consideration. I don't have any information as to when it might be implemented, but it is being seriously considered.
