You are invoking your functions instead of passing them as arguments (callbacks) to esri/request's then method. Here's passing your functions as arguments: requestHandle.then( reqSucceeded, reqFailed ); Here's what you're doing: requestHandle.then( reqSucceeded('delIncident'), reqFailed('delIncident') ); See the difference? If you need to inject arguments to reqSucceeded and/or reqFailed, use lang.partial.

Derek, may I ask the reason for the recommendation to use object.on instead of on(object, ..)? Is that because object.on will register the event handler at the object scope, while on(object, ...) will register at the global level? Using on(object, event, callback) shouldn't be any different than using object.on(event, callback). My recommendation was purely from a readability point of view?? I find object.on style code easier to read. Also note that as of version 3.5 esri/map and everything in esri/layers and esri/tasks now has .on style events.

I just viewed the sample on IE8 , and the Print dropdown button isn't displayed. In the developer tools, it simply says, "LOG: Something broke: [object Error]". Are you viewing the sample on help.arcgis.com or developers.arcgis.com? Using the sample on developers.arcgis.com works and is what you should be using.

Thanks Ken. I've updated the "What's New in Version 3.5" to point to sample description pages instead of the sample itself: http://developers.arcgis.com/en/javascript/jshelp/whats_new.html I fixed the search issue you pointed out where searching for "query" results in a bad link for the "Access Data (JSON)" sample: http://developers.arcgis.com/en/javascript/jssamples/#search/query edit: I also added "In addition to the samples featured in the side bar, more samples are available by using search box in the upper right." to the samples overview page: http://developers.arcgis.com/en/javascript/jssamples/

The sample works in IE8. What's different between the sample code and your code? One thing to look into is mixing https and http URLs. IE might be blocking request to some URLS based on your its security settings.

Thanks. If your app requires that users toggle layers in a service, it's up to you to build the UI for that.

We do not have plans to add a "layer list" or "table of contents" widget to manage map layers and sublayers. We've resisted adding this to the API because we don't want to encourage building generic, kitchen sink style viewers. I realize that we (Esri) do not have a consistent story on this as we still provide generic viewers for other platforms/technologies. We're open to discussing it further, but I personally agree with anti-viewer, anti-portal sentiments that some have expressed online for the past couple of years (most recent example).

Use dijit/registry.byId to get a reference to a dijit (in this case your dijit/Menu) and not dom.byId. Then use addChild on the object retuned by registry.byId. I also cleaned up the code and markup a little: http://jsfiddle.net/rVM9Z/

You are correct, setRequestPreCallback does not fire for WMS layers. My mistake. I do not see a clear workaround for this.

That's pretty odd reasoning. For those coming to the page as new user, how will they even know that there are additional samples that they can search for? Maybe you should include text on the Samples Overview page stating this. The selection of which samples were dropped is perplexing. The basic Find and Identify samples aren't included while Query samples remain. We previously had ~270 samples in the TOC. This was a product of us consistently adding a few samples per release for 5+ years. Now we have ~100 and they're the samples we think appeal to the largest audience. I'll add some additional explanatory text to the overview page stating more samples are available via search, good call on that. There are still some broken links using search, too. For example, in the search for "query", the first returned result, "Download content in JSON format using esri.request" is a 404 page I'll get that fixed too, thanks for the heads up.
