In general, there is no way to clip the data. However, depending on what application you are using to create your maps, it is possible to restrict the display to a particular area. In the ArcGIS.com map viewer, there is no way currently to restrict the visible extent of the data. In ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) it is possible to restrict the extent of the data frame to a specified extent. Thus, a user wouldn't be able to zoom out past your area of interest. There is a property on the data frame that sets this. Hope this helps, Mike

I've not tried this myself but... You might try building your own image transformation and putting it in a "World file". This is a text file that defines a coordinate transformation between the image and a real world coordinate system... Here are some links... http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcims/10.0/mainhelp/topics/author_world_files.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_file Mike

There are some problems with ArcGIS Desktop 10 connecting to ArcGIS.com through a proxy server. These issues are addressed in ArcGIS Desktop 10 SP1, which is due out shortly. Thanks, Mike

Susan, Looks like you've encountered a bug, as the loading message should not be displaying when the URL is incorrect. The URL to your server you need to enter is this: http://maps.gov.bc.ca/arcserver/rest/services Then you should see the list of your services. You can add the eteam service as a whole. You can't add individual layers inside a service separately, however. Thanks, Mike

Do you mean that you want to draw a point on the map and associate a photo with that point? You can do that in ArcGIS Explorer Online by adding a "note" to the map then associating a URL to a photo with the note. Mike

The return request is coming from an HTTPS connection that is not under www.arcgis.com. If this is somehow getting blocked by your organization (eg through a firewall), you can see this error. Can you check with the people who manage how you connect to the internet to see if there are any restrictions on these sorts of connections? Thanks, Mike

Have you tried clearing your browser cache? Also, is there a particular package you're having trouble with or is it any layer package? Thanks, Mike

The geographic transformation you need to use between WGS84 and NAD83 is NAD_1983_To_WGS_1984_5 within the 48 contiguous US states. You can choose that transformation from the Geographic Coordinate Systems Warning dialog that appears when you add the layer or your other data into your map, or you can open the View > Data Frame Properties dialog, go the Coordinate System tab and choose that transformation in the Transformations subdialog after you??ve created the map. Here??s a help topic about this. The layer file (LYR file) you are accessing just references an online service: it doesn??t contain any imagery data. When you add an online service into ArcGIS Desktop it is automatically projected on the fly to match the coordinate system and transformation used in your map. When you work with that layer file, the tools in ArcGIS for reprojecting your local data won??t work on that layer. There are several layer files and layer packages we??ve added into ArcGIS Online that reference the most commonly used online services to make them easy to access for ArcGIS Desktop users. PS. If you are using ArcGIS 9.3 or more recent, use this world imagery layer: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=a5fef63517cd4a099b437e55713d3d54 instead of the one you are using. This doesn??t work in 9.2 however, so we still provide the older service so that 9.2 users can work with it. Hope this helps. Posted on behalf of Rupert Essinger

@najerapa When you sign in to ArcGIS Online and go to 'My Content' do you see your layer packages? Then when you do a general search for content you don't see them? If so, then you need to adjust the ArcGIS.com view preferences at the top of the page. At the top of the page, find 'Show: Web content only'. Change this setting to 'Show: All content'. Now do your search again and you should find your layer packages. If you are on the Map tab and trying to find your layer packages so that you can add them to the map, this is not supported at this time. Thanks, Mike

It's possible that the layer package doesn't actually contain the necessary data. Here's how you can check: In ArcMap, display the layer properties of the layer in question with the exclaimation point. Click the Source tab and look at the pathname to the data. I suspect it might be referencing a local SDE geodatabase. This layer package will never display properly because it doesn't contain the data. When the person created it, they specified that the data should not be included; there is a checkbox that must be checked when creating the package that says: "Include ArcSDE Geodatabase data". If this is not checked, the layer package won't contain the data. Thanks, Mike

Where exactly are you trying to sign in? From ArcMap or from the website at www.arcgis.com? Try signing out everywhere then try to sign in again. If you can sign in to www.arcgis.com, can you open your layer package from the website? Click the Open button. This should automatically try to open ArcMap. Also, just to clarify, you already had an ESRI Global Account and you clicked the "Register your Esri Global Account on the Sign In page, right? See attachment for a screenshot of what this looks like. Thanks, Mike
