What product are you using? ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, ArcGIS Explorer Online? I don't, however, think there is a way to always keep all of them open, if that's what you want. Thanks, Mike

Some people use arcgis.com to share other types of data, such as layer and map packages. These files can be quite large, because they contain the actual data. Thus, the 2GB of space is useful in this case. Thanks, Mike

Can you explain a little more on what you're trying to do? Currently, you can open web maps created in ArcGIS.com inside of ArcGIS Desktop v10. Mike

Most of our base maps contain "modern" information in them. We do have a shaded relief base map, with no labels or roads, but there are no rivers in it. Mike

Jin Lee, What version of ArcGIS Server are you running? I suspect ArcGIS Server .NET v 9.3.1 with IIS. I believe you've encountered a bug. The problem is you have a folder name that begins with a number. This causes the server to return some invalid information, and thus, arcgis.com can't connect to your server. You can either upgrade your server to the latest version, or simply try renaming your folder named 2005 so that it begins with a letter. Thanks, Mike

The gallery shows a list of hand picked items... There is a link on the right side of the page that says "Most Recent". Clicking that may show you your layer package...as long as you don't wait too long because as people share their items, the most recent list changes. Thanks, Mike

I agree it is a bit confusing. Layer files (LYR) are currently not shown in ArcMap because they don't actually contain any data. Thus, the likelihood of them working by someone other than the person who created it is small. That being said, you can open the layer file from the arcgis.com website by clicking the Open link, which will launch ArcMap. I suggest you create a layer package and upload that instead. Then you will be able to see and access it directly from ArcMap. Also, anyone who can see the layer package will be able to open it. Hope this helps, Mike

From your email I'm assuming you are in Germany... The best way to go is to talk to a distributor. They will get you the answer you need. Here's a contact list. http://www.esri.com/apps/company/contact/index.cfm?fa=distributor.lookup&country=Germany Thanks, Mike

Can you just ignore the error in your script? In our experience, a time out can occur, but the file does upload successfully. Let me know if you find otherwise as you have quite large files. We are currently investigating various ways to fix the time out problem, but it's not resolved yet. Thanks, Mike

You should be able to simply save the map again. Once the layer fails to load, it is removed from the map. Thanks, Mike

We probably wouldn't build an API for python (but some enterprising developer could!). But there is a longer term plan to expose a rest endpoint for arcgis.com... Mike
