Here is a screenshot showing the page I am talking about. Again, this is for the Basic Viewer web app template. It sounds like if you enter something in the search box the app should search all of your search layers/sources. But I check the box and the app still only searches within the default search. I am hoping some AGOL staff can chime in here and let me know what this option really does. Kelly Hutchins Kelly Gerrow

If you convert your map to the basic viewer app you can mark a check box option on the configuration page in the General section that allows you to display the popup as a panel. But it would still be nice to have that popup un-tethered in all maps.

Thanks so much Alan. I'm glad this is getting some attention since neither work-around is ideal. The feature layer I am using is address points. So I guess I could have an address point query layer that is 100% transparent and no visibility limitations but searchable, and then the address point label layer that has the visibility range set.

Thanks for the reply, but I am talking about making an app from a map and the app has a search function that allows users to search in specific fields for various layers. The check box I am referring to is at the bottom of the search page of the configuration page. This is for a standalone app not a WAB app.

I am implementing an app based on the ArcGIS Online Basic Viewer app template. While configuring the search layers and fields there is a check box at the bottom of the page that says "Search all sources". What does this do? I have selected it and can't see any difference between it being checked or unchecked. Thanks, Jeff

I ran into this issue today, and thankfully I was trying to publish a tile package so I wasn't using credits every time I would try again with different settings. My problem was the mxd I used from one of the Local Government templates had the customized full extent set to Naperville. To fix my issue I zoomed to the extent of my data and changed the "Other" option and clicked on the Specify Extent button and chose "Current Visible Extent".

Mike Minami - nowhere that I have seen does any of the documentation say you need to have a domain set for the dropdown selection to work. I did read on the configuration pages of the app that in order to have a dropdown available you needed multiple filters in the map. I tried a bunch of different combinations of adding the same layer multiple times and creating a filter for each but all that did was put multiple filters in the filter pane of the app. I think the documentation for the "Apply Filters" page for ArcGIS Online help and the app configuration pages could really be improved so that it becomes more clear how you can apply filters and then use them in the filter app template. In the help it says you can allow the user to choose a selection to see a subset of school types by making a selection but never describes how to make that selection. I was able to figure it out from your statement above that a domain was needed. Just a recommendation. Thanks, Jeff

I contacted tech support for this issue and learned that it is a bug with no workaround. This is from their email to me - Here is the pertinent information about this bug: BUG-000087543 Synopsis: Running the ArcGIS Solutions Schema Migration Wizard and selecting to keep the current content returns a bad xml file that cannot be imported to a geodatabase. Unfortunately, there is no workaround for this bug. We apologize for this inconvenience.

This is what I get when trying to use the X-Ray add-in: And that's just in the case where I don't try opening the xml to change the spatial reference. If I try to do that I get the error about not having Excel installed after a very long time of the "wait" spinning mouse pointer.

This is where it bails out when I attempt to import the schema by right clicking the geodatabase and selecting "Import from XML Document": And this is the error message: I select the "Schema Only" radio button on the import dialog so I'm not sure why it would be doing anything regarding a geometry - empty or otherwise.

Okay so I am trying this again because some of the new maps I would like to implement for some clients use the new schema. I have made a few additions and modifications to the geodatabase and I would like to keep those, but I would also like to update the schema with features that are used in the new maps. I have been able to run the wizard and get an xml document that lists the feature classes I have added. When I attempt to import the schema to an empty geodatabase it bails out half way through when trying to import the OpsIncidentArea feature class. Do I need to use the X-Ray for ArcCatalog add-in for the schema import? Or can I just create a new empty file geodatabase and right click and select Import XML Document? Scott Oppmann, that wasn't shown in the video you mentioned above, you skipped it for the sake of time. I can't get either method to work. When I open the output xml document - all of the xml tags are contained on one line - I don't know if that affects the import process or not. And lastly, the interface for the Schema Migration Wizard is a bit confusing- If you read the instructions at the top it would seem that the first box is the version of your old schema. The second box says "Current Solution Version" which would imply Esri's most current release of the schema - but in fact I believe that it is the exact opposite. Then there is a drop down box at the bottom that says Target Solution Version that is grayed out and changes with the choices you make to the ArcGIS Solution box. Why not have two drop downs labeled "Target Version" and "Your Version" with the "Your Version" selection defaulted to "unknown"? When I attempt to use X-Ray for ArcCatalog to import the schema it says that I don't have Excel installed, but I do. I am able to import the local government schema that I download from the solutions site using X-Ray just fine.

I have set up a map in ArcGIS Online to allow feature search on my address points in the full address field. When I open my map I am zoomed to the full extent of the city boundary. At this scale the address points are turned off because the scale is beyond the layer's visibility range. When I type in an address the search brings up suggestions, so it is searching the table, but when I select an address from the list of suggestions it gives me a "No Results - No results were found for such and such address" error. However, if I hit enter it zooms to the address. Then if I zoom out to the full extent again and enter an address it is doesn't give me the error and zooms to the address with no problems. This seems like a bug. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior? Thanks, Jeff Small Town GIS

Anybody been able to get the Schema Migration Wizard to work? I've tried it with both data and no data, both times I get an error that says "Import xml data failed. The relationship class is incompatible with an existing relationship class." The only way I have been able to get it to work is if I run it through without any modifications to the original schema. Thanks for any input. Jeff Ward Small Town GIS

Bert, To publish hosted services on AGOL from an ArcMap document, I think you need an Organization Account. I have done it through ArcMap by going to File - Sign In then File - Share As. But I have access to an organization account. When I sign in using an account that comes with my standard level license, those options are grayed out. How are you getting to the dialog you posted? Bert, That diaolog is for connecting to ArcGIS Server. You need to sign on to AGOL and go to My Content and then Add Item. This will allow you to add a shapefile packaged in a zip file. But I don't think you can edit it in an AGOL map, and you are limited to 1,000 features. If you have and AGOL for Organizations account, you can get around the 1,000 feature limit, and you can edit the features in the feature layer. Hope that helps, Jeff Ward Small Town GIS
