Are OBJ files exported from Site Scan "georeferenced", when GPC data was used during processing?

If GCPs are correctly/optimally used (with RTK) during data collection, and the resulting orthomosaic and 3D mesh after processing in Site Scan are considered to be georeferenced, then is the exported OBJ file also georeferenced? I'm having a debate with someone who insists that a OBJ is never ever ever georeferenced.

Hi @LynneCalligaro

The OBJ mesh output from Site Scan is scaled but not georeferenced. OBJ is an old data format that was not designed for geospatial data or the size and resolution of meshes generated today, it does not contain specifications for geolocation.

When you need a georeferenced 3D mesh, use the I3S Scene Layer Package (.slpk).

Thank you Nico! Can Site Scan save/export a single I3S data set, or Scene Layer?

Yes, the Scene Layer Package is exported as a single file.
