Unable to access arcpy function: ExportMosaicDatasetItems_management within the mosaic dataset toolset - ArcGIS 10.1 Desktop / Avanced license

The documentation for v 10.3/10.4 includes this function - but I haven't found specific info to indicate that it was an enhancement between 10.1 and 10.3.  Just wondering if it's as simple as that.

Specifically, in 10.1 it's not available at the dropdown within the geoprocessing python window in arcmap and returns a runtime error indicating that the module object doesn't exist, although other ExportMosaicDataset functions within the management module are available in 10.1.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.
