I am opening a new office soon that will focus primarily on rapid data conflation. I will be hiring about five new staff. I would like to have several trained in writing tools, macros, and other customization / automations to support the work. Given that most work will be done in a desktop environment, what is the communities opinion on the best training path and resources to meet this need? Any responses are appreciated.

Thank you for your reply Alexander. I will review that blog.
Regarding your questions; I am assuming that python would provide the most bang for the training buck. I am interested in having one or two full time GIS Analysts that can double as programmers. I am not sure if that answers your question or not about type of programmer.
Hi Chris Watson,
It helps. I would start for desktop developing at Python since you can get most automation functionality out of it. As far as getting web content out there, a little knowledge on JavaScript would greatly help as well.
Thanks again Alexander Nohe. Your replies have been helpful.
