Introducing the new Metadata, Catalogs and Search Product Place

We're excited to announce a new Community Place (under the products section) for Metadata, Catalogs and Search. After having internal discussions with Esri’s Metadata team, we concluded it would be most beneficial to have this Place be monitored and managed by Esri staff. This will give staff the opportunity to share information, updates, helpful links, and ArcGIS capabilities related to metadata, catalogs, and search. The Metadata, Catalogs and Search Place is now live and selected content from the User Group will be migrated over to the new Place over the next few weeks.

What’s the difference between a User Group vs. a Place?

A Place in Esri Community is designed for Esri products, industries, services, programs, or Esri sponsored initiatives.

What does this mean for the Metadata User Group?

First, we want to thank Marten Hogewag [@MartenHogeweg] and Curtis Price [@curtvprice] for creating and owning this User Group starting in 2014. It has been an invaluable resource for Metadata discussions and questions, and we’re excited to continue the collaboration in this new Place. Our plan is to migrate the top viewed posts, and the posts from the past year into the new Place. All remaining content will be archived but if requested, we have the ability to unarchive posts so that the public can view them again.

Migrating the content from the Metadata User Group to the Metadata, Catalogs and Search Place has some advantages. In addition to the Metadata User Group features, members can now add labels to posts which help categorize questions and blogs based on the themes or content in a post. Lastly, the search for the Place on Esri Community is streamlined as users can effortlessly locate it under the Products category, listed under the Capabilities tab, for easy navigation.

What if I need a post that has been archived?

If you land on a page that indicates the post has been archived, send an email to esricommunity@esri.com with the link and we’ll move it into the Metadata, Catalogs and Search Place and in public view.

Here’s a few handy resources to help you navigate the new Place once it’s launched:

We appreciate your understanding and are looking forward to continued engagement in the new Metadata, Catalogs and Search Place!

For more information and/or insights on what’s to come to the new Place, Jill Saligoe-Simmel [@Jill_Saligoe-Simmel], Marten Hogeweg [@MartenHogeweg] , or Aleta Vienneau [@AletaVienneau], the Place Managers, can provide further details.

If you have questions on the migration, please feel free to reach out to myself or  Michelle Mathias [@MichelleMathias].
