Why in the world whenever I use the scale to zoom in or out bounced another area ? Is there a reason for that ?  What I am saying here is that whenever I use that scale and let it go my mouse it would bounced to the right or to the left in the center of the screen ?

This is an annoying !

Any tips ?

Robert,

My guess is that when the image is scaled, the result is being centered in the middle of the data view because there is no control point available to anchor it in place. It almost acts like a graphic until the georeferencing information is written to the image. I haven't seen a setting that will change this behavior.

It may be less frustrating to scale the image using control points as suggested in this forum.

In short:

  1. Open the link table
  2. Uncheck 'Auto Adjust' and Select 'zero order polynomial' transformation from the Georeferencing pulldown
  3. Create your 1st link (acts as the anchor) to shift the image to the location you want it and select 'Update Display' in the Georeferencing dropdown
    1. If the image is already in the correct location then stack the starting and ending control point on top of each other so it's "anchored" before the next link is created
  4. Change the transformation to '1st order polynomial' and create a 2nd link. The 2nd link will act as the scaling factor.
  5. Select 'Update Display' to "scale" the image

This method works best if the 1st and 2nd link are positioned at the opposite ends of the image otherwise rotation may occur.

Is it the scale in this link Georeferencing toolbar tools—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop on the interactive tools section?

if so, have you tried manually typing it in?

If it isn't that tool, can you provide details as to which scale you are referring to?

If i understand your question you're asking about zooming in and out using the wheel on the mouse. Go to "Customize"->"ArcMap Options" Click the general tab mouse wheel settings at the bottom.

No, when you use the scale tool to "zoom" in or "zoom" out and when you do that where you want and then let it go the mouse it just jumps out in the middle and you would have to use the shift to move it  Get it ?

that's why I sent you the link. in the dropdown to the right of the toolbar is the rotate, shift and scale options.  I was wondering if you had tried the scale tool rather than zooming in to rescale

Yes, I am aware of that tool you mention but my question was why does the rescale bounced like jumping when you use it ?

If you are not referring to "recentering of the dataframe"  then it is probably a glitch, since I can't see it being as an "as designed" feature. It would be a good idea to use your suggestion of taking a video screen grab and sending it off.  It may be a recognized bug, but finding the right keywords to search for it is pretty tough ( ie erratic scale... jumping around... )

Dan Patterson .  I fixed and edit the title so I hope I can explain more clearly. I want to see if others have the same problem.
