Map templates

Hi guys, this may sound a little odd, but please does anyone know how to create a new template in arcgis 10? I do not see the option for mxt extension when I choose the 'save as' from file menu. I do not want to use the built in templates in arcgis but want to create mine.

One option is to put your template map (can be a .mxd) in C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\ESRI\Desktop10.0\ArcMap\Templates

When you engage ArcMap you can pick one of the maps in this folder to use for your map on the welcome screen.
