I'm using the Grid Index Features tool to build a grid that follows an irregular polyline featureclass. And then using the gridded polygons in a data page driven layout. The image below shows the irregular line in dashed blue.

I am entering a polygon grid origin other than the one specified by ArcMap when the tool first displays, and then in filling out the other fields on the page, I'm good until I get to this point - i.e. I want to change the number of columns from 5 (as shown) to 6.

When I change the value to 6, the polygon height and polygon width values change from 7 and 9 inches to values in the thousands as shown below.

What is causing this and how can I add the one extra column while maintaining the original polygon width?
My ArcGIS version is 10.2.1
