We have recently received countywide 3-inch orthophotography. Pyramids were already built by our vendor and provided in the data delivery. When adding the tiles to ArcGIS Pro version 3.2.3, we do not get prompted to build pyramids. This is the version most of our analysts are using locally. My PC was having issues, so I remoted into a VM with ArcPro version 2.9.6 installed. When I attempt to add the tiles within an active project, I am prompted to build pyramids. My question is if there are differences in how pyramids are handled based on the version of ArcGIS Pro?
@JTCHRIS I can't speak to if pyramids are handled differently between versions.
However, I get similar data from vendors for our imagery - many times they have internal pyramids built within the TIFF files themselves. ArcPro usually doesn't prompt me to build them if I add the tiles themselves to the project.
It would be interesting to know how ArcPro handles an image when you bring it in. For example, does it look for pyramids and possibly suggests building them if there aren't enough levels for proper display. Or if Esri could list out what it reviews to cause the prompt to build pyramids.

You can turn off the prompt, so it's possible the one install has it turned off and the other will prompt, which may be default. Can't recall which one is default but if you go into Options, Applications, Raster & Imagery, raster dataset, the first dropdown under build pyramids lets you pick. Hope that helps.
