Generating schema from existing training samples

Hello,

I am struggling to use the Training Samples Manager within the Imagery Classification Tools in ArcGIS Pro. I have created shapefiles of areas representing different classes. I have already discovered the secret that shapefiles used for training data require fields with the specific "classname" (text) and "classvalue" (integer) fields. When I enter Training Samples Manager, select "New Schema," then "Generate from Training Samples," I am brought back to the window displaying the NLCD2011 classes, and no evidence of my shapefile classes. Apparently something has happened, though I don't know what, because if I navigate away I am asked whether I want to save my new schema. Essentially, I can't figure out how to work through the workflow for loading in training samples from a shapefile, and I can't find any details on the ArcGIS Pro Documentation page or Esri Training. I would appreciate more information on that feature.

Hey @jdgrabowski,

You pointed out the classname and classvalue fields.  Just making sure that the numeric classvalues consistently match the class name? I tested the issue and my suggestion would be to reach out to technical support. They can be reached here: https://support.esri.com/en/contact-tech-support.  I did want to mention that you could create a new empty schema and create separate classes that correspond to your existing ones. Then you can open the polygon feature class in the bottom manager pane. This would allow you to create, edit, or merge new classes based upon geometry you have already captured.

I'm having this problem now, did you ever find a solution?

hi,

I actualy found the answer. I had the exact same issue. The attribute table of my shapefile contained "classname" and "classvalue" which is a requirement for the classification to work but every other column of the attribute table has to be deleted. The final attribute table of my shapefile had : FID, Shape_length (impossible to delete), classname, and classvalue. If you follow the same steps as before, it should work now.
