In this role, you will develop, deploy and administer enterprise SQL databases that are spatially enabled using ESRI’s ArcGIS Server and native spatial data types.  One of your primary responsibilities will be the development and maintenance of a spatial data warehouse that serves a critical role to the organization.  Collaborating on the design of the next generation of the data warehouse will be a top priority on your roadmap.  In this wide-ranging role, you will also help to administer our GIS infrastructure in the cloud. A desire to learn new skills in all areas of responsibility will be critical to your success.

Primary Responsibilities

Designs, builds, maintains, and supports GIS solutions and the underlying infrastructure:

  • Works with Product Managers, GIS Dev/Analysts and/or Data Scientists to design and implement GIS solutions, including data pipeline solutions
  • Applies knowledge of, and skills in, enterprise geodatabases and data warehousing tools to provision, integrate, monitor, and optimize data stores
  • Develops data relationships between multiple disparate data sources and transforms the raw data into analytical data models
  • Develops and maintains automated deployment processes that meet strict IT controls, including use of infrastructure-as-code tools
  • Collaborates with other IT Engineers and IT Architects to ensure that the GIS solutions efficiently and effectively integrate with the broader IT infrastructure
  • Partners with vendors and peers in IT to advance the GIS team roadmap

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience is required
  • Minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of progressive, relevant GIS/IT experience
  • Able to apply business knowledge to develop and deliver innovative, value-added improvements
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, skilled in communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences
  • Excellent collaboration skills in working together with others across all IT segments
  • Proven ability to operate and effectively communicate while under pressure; as well as the ability to manage a diverse workload and work under time constraints with minimal supervision
  • Actively working to learn new skills in order to stay current with changing technologies and industry trends, shares knowledge proactively with others

Technical Qualifications

  • Proficient knowledge of SQL coding and best practices, including:
    • coding and optimizing programmable objects like stored procedures and functions
    • designing, implementing, and materializing views
    • writing automation packages for ETL/ELT processes, e.g. SSIS or Azure Data Factory
    • performance evaluation with tools like Activity Monitor and SQL Profiler
    • performance optimization of database operations
  • Functional understanding of geodatabase design and spatial relationships
  • General familiarity with python scripting and automation of GIS tasks, preferably with arcpy or the ArcGIS API for Python

Highly Valued

  • Functional knowledge of best practices for developing and managing CI/CD pipelines, including data pipelines
  • Functional knowledge of Jupyter Notebooks
  • Familiarity with the SAFE/FME data integration platform
  • Familiarity with modern cloud data stores and platforms (Snowflake, RedShift, etc.)
  • Advanced skill implementing solutions in the ESRI ArcGIS platform, including desktop, server, web/portal, mobile, and database tools
  • Proficient in provisioning, monitoring, and optimizing server infrastructure in the cloud
  • Functional understanding of forestry and land title concepts and datasets
  • Working knowledge of ITIL/ITSM principles and practices

Location

This work associated with this position can be performed fully remote or in a hybrid capacity, provided you are currently based (or are planning to move to) one of the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia. This role is not open to those who live in other states or countries.
