Spatial Join Between Raster and Vector Datasets:

Hello:
I am required to assign elevation values to an existing point dataset. I would like to use a DEM to acheive this goal.  Is there a method of conducting a process similar to a spatial join between the point dataset (vector) and the DEM (Raster)?  Thanks in advance for any assitance.

maybe you could install the attribute assistant and let the attribute assistant calculate the elevation field via this trigger:

If you have access to the Spatial Analyst extension, use Extraction >> Extract Values to Points. It will retrieve either the cell center value under the point, or extrapolate the value based on actual location.
