Iteration

Hi Folks, I'm trying to iterate the downloading of data from a location where lidar data is stored but am having problems. In the image below, The "2" dataset is a shapefile with a list of 20 polygons that I would like to clip. The extract mask tool has for output dataset the following: "D:\Mueller_UK\Projects\SuperComputer\KY_Lidar\Tom_B_%Value%". The extract mask tool works when it is outside the loop and when the there is only one polygon in the shapefile "2". But when I have more than one polygon in "2", it extracts too large of an area from the lidar data. I think I have something wrong here but I'm not sure what. This is my first time automating with model builder. I attached the model and the "2" shapefile as a zip file. If you could help me, I would be very grateful.
Best,
Tom

Hi Tom

Is your LiDAR really a raster or do you need to work with LAS data?  If so the Data Interoperability extension will work for you, but before sending you down that path please clarify the format of data you want to clip with the iterator and the polygon shapefile.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your response.  I have now upgraded to Arcgis 10.1 and just downloaded the interoperability extension.  The data is on a server in a 5-m raster format.  It appears to be re-projecting on the fly.

Let me add some clarification.  The iterator appears to be working when the input fishnet has one polygon cell that downloads exactly 24,004 KB.

When I have more than one fishnet polygon, It downloads 45,606 KB per cell (almost twice as large).

So it works but something is off.  Any suggestions you can give me would be appreciated.

best,
Tom

Hi Tom

One of the spatial (raster) specialists here ran your tool against the masking shapefile and a raster she made, and it all worked just fine, so you should be OK with Spatial Analyst.  Can you log a support call?  That way you'll be able to share your data and we'll get to the bottom of it.

Hi Bruce,

I think it is running!  It may be that I have 10.1 running but I doubt it.

But again, but each raster cell that is downloaded is twice the size that it needs to be.  As I said earlier, if you select only one fishnet polygon cell, the raster grids are 24,004 KB.  If you download more than one, they become 45,606 KB per cell.  But the data looks good.  I wonder if the raster structure is correct.

How do I file a support call.  I think I have to email one of the UK contacts, correct?

Thanks,
tom

Hi Bruce,

I tried running with 6 cells and I downloaded  91,000 kb for one fishnet cell.  Something is seriously wrong.  It should only about 24,000.  I really appreciate your help.  I have requested that our ESRI contacts put in a service call.  I will post the solution when I get to it.  Thanks!
Best,
Tom
