Is there a tool which allows you to select records that equals a specific attribute like 'Hwy'

Thanks

Hi Scott,

Yes, there are several Select tools in the ArcToolbox.

This tool selects based on a query and exports the dataset to a new one:

Select—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop

This one just selects the data:

Select Data—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop

(mainly used for ModelBuilder)

What I do is use the Search tab and type in Select. This gives me the different Select choices from the toolbox.

I'm looking for one that does what 'Select by Attributes' does. Think I found one in 'Select Layer by Attribute'.

Thanks

Yup! There it is:

Select Layer By Attribute—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop

I love the Search tab in ArcMap. It makes me feel better since it is hard for me to remember most of what is there in the toolbox!

yes Select Layer By Attribute—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop

But to save you from searching the help, you can use the Tools link on the top navigation bar in the help topic, you can explore the whole arctoolbox structure by clicking on the Tools link.
