From theory the Erase tools should more suitable for my case. But, it is not working, there is no result from Eraser tools.
Even though the Erase feature is generated from buffer process, which is mean an Area type.

Why the Erase tools is not working?
Anyone knows about this??

I think the erase feature needs to be completely within the feature you are erasing from symmetrical difference doesn't

use clip but select preserve the area that intersects rather than the default discard the area that intersects.

Hi,

I'm trying to do the same thing as the thread starter.

When editing I can use "Clip" and "Discard the area that intersects", but I've found no way of doing this using model builder.
Is it possible?

When using the Clip or Erase tools in Model builder I am always left with an output. I want to keep the original data, but clip a hole in them, not make a new feature class.

Hi,
If you do not wish to output to an actual feature class I use 'in memory results' for a lot of my intermediate data plus it dramatically speeds up the process time. Take a look half way down the page at the following link;
http://resources.esri.com/help/9.3/arcgisengine/java/Gp_ToolRef/automating_your_work_with_models/int...

ot sure how to switch the clip selection in model builder though - bit annoying you don't get the same options.

Thanks for the tip, I might use it in another project.

The problem here is that the clip tool doesn't remove anything from the original data set.
